The Federal House Of Representatives on Friday, 9th July, supported the earlier decision of the Federal Government to build the Federal College of Education in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The House made their stand known after listening to multiple petitions authored and sent by Izzi Development Union, Izzi Forum and Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, against the siting of the Federal College of Education at Isu.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions while declaring its decision said:
“The Federal College of Education, Isu has come to stay as the Executive had already exercised its right of choice of location, visited and approved the site and work is already programmed to commence there.

“The petitioners should wait for another opportunity, and lobby when the time comes, as this one is already gone”.

He added: “The members of the National Assembly from the two zones (Ebonyi North and South) should unite as brothers and close ranks and talk to their constituents so that peace and unity can reign”.

Speaking on the decision of the House, the Member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo (OHANIVO) Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Livinus Makwe expressed his joy over the ruling, as he thanked his constituents for standing with him in the struggle for the location of the Federal College of Education, which has finally come to stay in Isu.

His words: “I am happy to report to my good people of Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency that after making my presentation (after our NASS members representing the petitioners have made theirs), laying the facts bare for all present to see and judge, the Honourable Chairman and members of the Committee saw reason and merit in my presentation and accordingly ruled in favour of the Federal College of Education, Isu remaining at its original location in Isu as already established by the Federal Government.

“I therefore wish to thank the entire people of OHANIVO for their maturity, unity of purpose as well as the support they have continued to give me to succeed. I thank our dear Governor, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE for always being fair to all and for his fatherly love for all Ebonyians in his relentless pursuit of the unity of Ebonyi State and equitable spread of projects and development.

“I commend the Isu elites, the Old Afikpo Union, the entire people of Onicha LGA and particularly the President General, Isuokoma Diaspora Union and the President and members of Isuokoma Town Union, Abuja Branch for their position papers which further helped our case”.

Hon. Makwe further assured the good people of OHANIVO that he would always stand and speak for them in all the matters that concern them, adding that with the help of God, he would fulfil all the promises made to his people.

He said: “I assure our people that I will always stand by them and that my voice will always be heard, loud and clear, firm and unequivocal, when and where it matters.

“With God on our side and with your continued support and prayers we shall surely deliver on all our mandates”.

Prior to the decision of the House Committee, there had been hot reactions from different quarters as regards the choice of Isu in Onicha LGA, as the location of Ebonyi’s own slot of the Federal College of Education.
