Three former Council Chairmen were on Thursday, July 16 appointed Special Assistants to Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi.
The affected ex-chairmen are:
Hon. Ogbonnaya Oko-Enyim- Afikpo North LGA;
Hon. John Nnabo- Ikwo LGA;
and Hon. Ogbonnaya Chukwu Ude- Ivo LGA.
The three past chairmen, before their new appointment as Special Assistants had earlier bought tickets to re-contest for the chairmanship position in their various local government areas on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and had also successfully scaled through the primary elections.
However, the announcement as regards the appointment of the former chairmen did not mention their portfolios or specific areas of responsibility as Special Assistants to the Governor.
Meanwhile, some indigenes of Afikpo North and Ikwo Local Government Areas have expressed their joy and have also heaved a sigh of relief over the new appointment given to their former Council Chairmen by Governor Umahi, which has subsequently removed the chairmen, whom they described as “Non-Performing Chairmen”, from re-contesting in the forthcoming local government elections slated for August 15, 2020.
