This week, social media users in Ebonyi and beyond beamed their searchlight on what seemed like a Secret Made Open – ‘The Collection Of A Car And Cash Gift’ by the immediate past Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Mr. Nwoba Chika Nwoba from Chief Austin Umahi, former Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Southeast Zone, who is also the younger brother of Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi.
According to Chika, Chief Austin Umahi invited him to his house some months ago and urged him to leave APC and come over to PDP, to enable him use his potentials to work for Ebonyi State Government, led by his elder brother, Dave Umahi.
Chika also said Chief Austin gave him the sum of N100, 000 that very day, which he received; though he demanded the sum of N10 million as his price, and the meeting was rescheduled.
A week later, another meeting was held.
In that meeting, Chika said he accepted to work with the first family and to join the PDP in no distant time, and there, another gift was presented to him. This time a Sienna car and N50, 000 cash, which he also received.
However, as the governor, Dave Umahi was making arrangements to switch over to the APC, Chika tendered his resignation letter to the APC and decamped to the PDP.
That was the beginning of the problem and how the giving and receiving of the car and cash gift was made open and dragged to social media.
Now, Chika is alleging that Chief Austin Umahi had breathed fire and brimstone, warning him to return the Sienna car, but Chika said he had already sold the car.
Meanwhile, the situation has attracted several reactions and comments from different quarters, with some in support of Chika while many condemn him for accepting the gifts from the Umahis in the first instance and promising to fulfill their DEMANDS.

“Some months back, younger brother to Ebonyi Governor, Chief Austin Umahi who was former vice chairman of the PDP in South East invited me to his house through a surrogate. He said that I should leave APC for the PDP. That the state government of his elder brother envied my publicity potentials and would like me to be part of the system. We were five in number in his Abakaliki home that day. Myself, the surrogate, Chief Austin Umahi, Silas Onu and Enekwachi Akpa. These persons are the governor’s hitmen. Whatever decision they take binds on the governor.
“They asked what my price was. I stuttered. I wasn’t at home with their request because, I had long ago made up my mind not to work with the governor, not even in the capacity of commissioner. I knew that if I danced against their request bluntly I could be killed there and nobody would be aware of what happened. I told them that they should give me N10million once. They said that it was too much. They sought to be paying me on monthly basis. I rejected it. I told them that I hated anything called salary.
They rescheduled the meeting and told me to think about it.
They gave me N100,000. I shared it 50-50 with the guy.
“A week later, we assembled. I agreed with them that I would be joining the PDP in due course. They handed me one dead sienna bus and N50,000. I wanted to reject it but, if I did they could act funny on me. They told me not to tell it to any human being on earth as they, too, were going to be secretive about it. I concurred. I kept it to myself for so many months now. I didn’t reveal it to anyone living on earth.
“When we drove outside, I told the guy that I was not going to drive the car. I told him that he should sell it immediately and give me anything he wanted to give me so I could use it for charity. He sold it and gave me my own share. I went to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki and paid bills for patients. I went to Awka and did the same thing. I didn’t put the money in my personal project because, I knew I was not going to work with them.
“A week later, Austin dialled my phone and complained that I was still criticising the government when I just received a gift from them. I replied that I had heard him. In keeping to the promise, I joined PDP last week. Austin dialled in and said that I should return the fucking sienna. I laughed at him. He said that they would make Nigeria inhabitable for me. He dialled again last night threatening me with police and all other things he threatened me with. I replied him that he should not approach me with such manner of stupidity or he faced shame. We quarrelled and quarrelled.
He has threatened to exterminate me. He has threatened to use the police against me.
“They have concocted petition alleging that I stole the dead sienna bus. They have made an arrangement to assassinate me. To either use police and jail me or shoot me dead. He insists that I should return the stinking sienna. I don’t even know who bought it and I don’t care to know.
“I didn’t solicit gift from them. They have been robbing Ebonyi people’s financial coffers and have been intimidating our people for no just reason; the little they offered me they now want to retrieve and even kill me. I want to assure them that they will see war, henceforth. I will tell Ebonyi people what they are yet to know about the Umahi administration and other sinister plans they have for our people. If they fail to leave me alone, and even apologise to me with N2million for insulting me, I will turn on a television set for them and they’ll be viewing themselves and nothing will happen.
“They should leave me alone. I have fulfilled the agreement I had with them by joining the PDP. Austin Umahi and Silas Onu should leave me alone! They are planning to kill me. I am aware of their plans and the characters they want to use and execute it. I want to tell them that they might be preparing to kill themselves, not me. I didn’t do them any wrong. Austin asked me why I joined PDP without telling him. I replied him: “As my father that you are or my boyfriend? You better respect yourself now or I shatter your already sable image.” He threatened brimstone, but he’s just a fingerling. A toy children use to play in the sand. This is the same man who claims to still be in PDP. He asked why I should be leaving the APC when they have just joined us. I asked him what our agreement was. Our agreement was that I should defect to PDP, and that I have done and it’s irreversible!
“I appeal to Gov. Umahi to warn his brother and Silas Onu if he doesn’t want me to clamp down on his government. I have what it takes to do so. He should give me N2million as a placatory gift and call his brother to order. It’s a must that they give me the money and their time has begun to count. After one week, it’ll be three million naira.
“Ebonyi people, I didn’t steal any car. I am not a thief. I have a future to protect. Umahi with his people has dealt us a big blow and it’s time we remind them that they are not the only family in Ebonyi State. Police should not allow themselves used this time. They should not buy into the propaganda that I stole or defrauded the first family. They gave me a gift. I sold it and used the proceed to assist the needy. Only God knows that I never spent the money realized from the sale of the stupid sienna on myself”.~ NCN
