The Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has been removed as the head of the ministry.
Mbaka who conducted his first service at the Adoration Ground on Sunday after three months of suspension, announced that he had be sent to Monastery, and would be replaced by another priest, Father Anthony Amadi.
However, AJM NEWS gathered that the announcement didn’t go down well with the Adoration Members as they rejected Mbaka’s removal and also attempted to attack the new priest, Amadi, who was speedily whisked away by security personnel.
Meanwhile, some of the Adoration members have vowed that no other priest would be welcome to the Chaplaincy, alleging a gang-up from certain quarters in the church against Mbaka.
A top member of the ministry, who confirmed Mbaka’s removal said the development was unfortunate.
He revealed: “All along, the Bishop has been trying to take over the Adoration Ministry. But I can assure you that no priest will succeed there. So long as Fr. Mbaka is not there, nobody will come there to worship.
“This will lead to anarchy. It’s unthinkable that this kind of harsh decision could be made. We the Adorers will never accept any other priest.
“Fr. Mbaka suffered and built that place with sole effort. Now they have tactically hijacked the place through the backyard. Let’s see how they will succeed.”
It would be recalled that the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev Callistus Onaga, on June 3 banned Fr. Mbaka from commenting on partisan politics.
Shortly after the initial ban was lifted, Mbaka violated the ban and verbally attacked Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, describing him as a ‘stingy man’.
Following outrage and condemnation that trailed the attack on Obi, the Bishop issued a pastoral injunction on attendance to Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, and enjoined all Catholics to stop visiting the ministry till further notice.
