The Senior Pastor of Word Alive Bible Church (Zion City), Ozizza Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Rev. Lawrence Eze has charged Christians around the globe to always be prepared for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, same way the bride gets herself ready to receive her groom, in a white linen apparel, pure and spotless.
Rev. Eze gave the charge during his Sunday sermon to mark the end of a 4-day annual programme (Word, Worship, Praise & Warfare- WWPW 2023), with the theme: Preparing The Bride For Christ, held at Word Alive Bible Church, Ozizza Afikpo.
The pastor further stated that God made man for the purpose of relating with him; therefore, man is expected to try his best to maintain good and quality relationship with God by accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour, and living in accordance to God’s word.
Other highlights of the programme included prayers for the widows, and sharing of food items and cash to 53 widows drawn from the five autonomous communities of Afikpo North LGA.
Speaking to AJM NEWS, Rev. Lawrence Eze revealed that this year’s programme was so special because it’s the seventh year of the programme, which they’ve held consistently.
He also noted that he takes great pleasure in feeding the widows during the programme, adding that the church was able to bless not fewer than 53 widows picked from different communities in Afikpo, who joyfully went home with 25kg bag of rice and condiments each, and some cash.
He further noted that in the 53 widows who got food items and cash, only 5 are the members of the Word Alive Bible Church.
Narrating how he got the inspiration, Rev. Eze said God gave him the instruction.
His words: “Some years ago, as I was eating and celebrating the festive period with my family, I was asked by God, “as you are eating and enjoying with your family, do you know that there are some homes that don’t have a cup of rice to eat?”
After the deliberations with God, I was instructed to begin feeding and taking care of the poor, particularly the widows and orphans”.
Asked how he gets sponsorship for the programme, the Senior Pastor said that he gets support from a few people who share the same burden with him.
He also added: “When the support fails to come, I go the extra mile by selling my property or sacrificing my children’s school fees, just to make sure that these widows and orphans are fed.
“I sold my parcel of land at Amaozara, Afikpo two years ago, in order to raise money to purchase food items for these poor ones.
“I feel very very happy and fulfilled whenever I share food, clothes and cash to the poor; I’ve no regret doing it”.
“God has also been showing Himself faithful in my life and family.
“Three of my children have enjoyed scholarships in their school; even the last scholarship was without my knowledge. I came to know about it when I gave my daughter money to pay her school fees, but she returned home with the very money, informing me that the school told her she’s now on scholarship. When I called the school management about the matter, they told me it’s true, and pleaded with me to forgive them for not informing me on time”.
Rev. Eze went on:
“We shall also have a repeat of this programme by December this year, which would include the usual sharing of food items and other materials to the widows, as well as free medical care for all.
“We thank all our sponsors and also plead with others to see the need to partner with us in this gracious assignment of feeding the poor”.
The beneficiary widows thanked Rev. Eze for the kind gesture, as they also prayed for more of God’s blessings and grace upon his life and family.
