The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi, has said the state will never be part of Biafra, a defunct republic that the Indigenous People of Biafra are trying to make alive again.

Umahi, one of the 2023 presidential aspirants on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made this assertion while playing host to members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), at the Government House in Abakiliki, the state capital.

According to him, Ebonyi is now enlightened and no longer a state that produces servants for others but a state that is fully integrated into Nigeria.

Governor Umahi said, “I use this opportunity to tell Igbo to be wise, this sit at home is useless and it is nonsense. This agitation is NONSENSE for me because even if it was to be Biafra, EBONYI WILL NEVER BELONG TO BIAFRA.

“I have been saying it and I will continue to say it and I have no apologies because we have been used as house boys and house girls and by the creation of Ebonyi State, we are having self-determination and somebody is telling me about Biafra. We have to get to the status of our brothers and sisters in South East. Before, we have no confidence in ourselves and we are changing the narratives and somebody has been your house boy and house girl and the person wants to aspire, you will definitely not be happy.

“So, we are not for Biafra, we are for a united and equitable just Nigeria. And so, I will continue to preach that there is no gain in sit at home, there is no gain in our killing ourselves and I am happy that the altercation with other people from other region is a thing of the past. We are living peacefully with our brothers and sisters from other regions and it is quite encouraging. But in sit at home, I don’t support it at all and I call on our people to come out in sincerity and fear of God, let us work together to do something about our region and liberate our people.”

This is not the first time Umahi would take a stance by insisting that Ebonyi is not and will never be a part of Biafra.

In January, during a reception organized for him by his political associates after declaring his presidential bid, the Governor had stated that his state will not be part of the agitation for a sovereign nation for the Igbos as it was not part of Biafra.

“First and foremost, I have been saying it, if anybody tells you about Biafra, tell them Ebonyi State will never be part of Biafra. We are not Biafra.

“We have been so oppressed and now we are finding our feet and you want us to go back. We will not. We will not. Let me make it clear for all to hear. Ebonyi State will not be part of any Biafran agitation,” the governor had declared.

The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM),
Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, has finally received the parents and siblings of slain student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Deborah Yakubu Samuel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Apostle Chibuzor had earlier made a request via OPM’s Facebook Page, asking the family of Yakubu Samuel to come down to Port Harcourt and reside, as he also promised to give automatic scholarship to the remaining children of Mr. Yakubu, when he heard about the gruesome killing of their daughter, Deborah Samuel by some religious fanatics on allegations of blasphemy.

In fulfillment of his promise, the Pastor gave the family a 14-flat Mini Estate to live in, and a Corolla car for Uber business, amongst other gifts.

Shared photos of the Mini Estate and car gifts with Deborah’s family on the Church’s official Facebook Page, said that was the fulfillment of the promise he made to the family a few days ago.

He said the Estate had been registered in Deborah’s family name as a mark of complete ownership of the property, adding that all was done through the Tithes and Offerings of OPM members.

His Words:

“In fulfillment of my earlier promise and in honour of the late Deborah Samuel, I on behalf of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM) relocated and donated a 14-flats-mini estate and a Corolla car, for Uber business, to her family in Port Harcourt.

“The estate was registered in their name immediately.

“In OPM we practice Christ’s love and show same in practical terms.

“These are funded through the tithes and offerings of OPM members.

“May God take all glory and honour.

Amen!”

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday in Asaba, Delta State, said the lower denomination of the nation’s currency including N5, N10 and N20 would soon be phased out of circulation.

While the said lower denominations have almost become worthless owing to the declining purchasing power of the naira, CBN said it was wasting money printing the notes which end up being abused by members of the public.

However, the apex bank said it has come up with the e-NAIRA initiative that would promote financial inclusion and cashless economy.

Speaking at a sensitisation exercise at the popular Ogbogonogo Market, Asaba, Dr. Aminu Bizi explained that traders in onions, sachet water, pepper among other commodities would be educated on how to use the e-NAIRA account to do transactions.

Bizi who is a consultant with CBN on e-NAIRA stated that the digital platform of transaction is fast, accessible, free and safe with over 99.9% success rate.

The e-NAIRA has come to stay. Why do you need cash if the onion seller, akara seller, chemist man or Keke/Okada operator have e-NAIRA account?

“Do you need to go to POS and cash money while ordinary Keke man can receive N50 via transfer?

“We are planning to meet with the union of Keke to sensitise them and give them a bar code.

“You have your e-NAIRA, before you even get down, you scan the Keke scanner bar code and you pay him his fare of N50 or N100.

“So why should you go and queue to withdraw money? Is it not for you to spend? So if these market people accept e-NAIRA, people don’t need to cash.

“So very soon, you may not be seeing N5, N10 or N20 notes in circulation because CBN is using money to print these notes, and at the end of the day this N5, N10, N20 will be abused.

“Go and see the woman selling corn, fish, they are squeezing these notes, at the end of the day, CBN is losing to reprint more notes to replace the mutilated ones,” he stated.

Bizi assured that the e-NAIRA account cannot be hacked by fraudsters.

“What I mean by that is that no yahoo can penetrate your e-NAIRA to take your money. Even if someone force you to collect your pin number or password, he can be traced because you cannot move e-NAIRA to another bank account.

“I have e-NAIRA, I cannot move funds to your bank account but I can take money from my bank account to my e-NAIRA.

“And I can take back my money in e-wallet to my bank account. So no chance for fraud. It is free, all marketers are free to accept e-naira,” he added.

Secretary to the State Government, Patrick Ukah who was represented by the Director of Finance and Account in the office, Benson Ojoko, lauded the apex bank for the initiative to further reduce the volume of physical cash in circulation.

Branch controller of CBN in Asaba, Mr. Godwin Okafor who was also represented by the Head of Customer Service, Bright Orji said the apex bank was committed to promoting digital transactions to reduce the risk involved in carrying cash.

EBONYI STATE GOVERNOR, Engr. Dave Umahi, has endorsed the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru as the person that will take over from him when he leaves office in 2023.

The endorsement was contained in a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Francis Nwaze and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki.

Umahi according to the statement, made the endorsement during the burial of the father to the state Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mrs. Chioma Nweze at Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

“The governor assured that the speaker will consolidate on the divine mandate leadership in the state.
“He appealed to the people of Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone and all Ebonyi people to support the candidacy of the Speaker for the sake of equity, justice, and fairness,” the statement read.

The statement indicated that the governor presented the speaker to Okposi people reminding them that those of Ebonyi North Zone offered their support when the Southern Zone sought such to produce the governor in 2015, which later produced him, Dave Umahi as the state governor.

“The governor implored that it was time to pay back
and promised that the divine mandate platform upon which the government came into office will continue.

“He urged the people not to fear as there was no one annointed by God that is not criticised by people.

“2023 elections will be based on ticking the ballot boxes and not about promises.

“It is a fact that my performance in office and that of others would be used by the APC for campaigns.

“The next president of the country should come from the south for equity, justice, and fairness.

“The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should offer explanations to the people if they fail to allot the position to the Southeast zone,” the statement read.

The statement also indicated that the governor reacted to the recent outbursts of Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on him and challenged the latter to a debate.
“We both want to be president, so the debate will enable people assess the deployment of our intellectual properties,” Umahi said.
