Various individuals and concerned groups have called on the Ebonyi State Government to effect the  immediate release of the detained leader of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka.

One of the groups, Igbo National Council (INC), said the Ohanaeze Youth leader, Comrade Igboayaka was picked up in a commando style in Imo State, on February 8, 2025, by the Ebonyi State Police Command, and has been in their net since then.

The groups in a statement jointly signed on Thursday alleged that Igboayaka was arrested for condemning the attack and killing of several Christian worshippers in Amegu Nkalaha, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

According to the groups, Igboayaka had earlier (four days before the attack) warned Ebonyi State Government and the people of Nkalaha to beef up security against an imminent attack on the community by herdsmen and bandits, based on Intel gathered by the Directorate of Intelligence of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, which was not heeded to by Ebonyi State Government, leading to the attack and subsequent killing of 15 persons.

Igboayaka subsequently, on the 4th of February, 2025, in a Press statement criticized Ebonyi Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru  for the attack on Nkalaha community, despite being warned ahead of time, adding that “findings indicate that Fulani herdsmen are expanding their presence in Ebonyi State, posing a significant threat of additional attacks if Governor Francis Nwifuru remains inactive, which may lead to further loss of life in Ebonyi State.”

Part of the statement read:
“We are aware that Comrade Igboayaka’s only ‘crime’ was to condemn the senseless killing of innocent citizens, and we will not stand idly by while he is persecuted for exercising his fundamental human rights.
“We therefore demand the immediate and unconditional release of the Ohanaeze Youth Council leader, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, by the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

“Igboayaka’s case is set to be heard on February 26, 2025, at the Magistrate Court Abakaliki.

“We are calling on youths and people of Ebonyi State and the South East Region to attend the court session in solidarity with Igboayaka.”

The members of the various groups that signed the statement are: Chilos Godsent – Igbo National Council (INC), Ifeanyichukwu – Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Indigenous Ethnic Youth Leaders of Nigeria IEYLN, Chinonso Uba Nonsonkwa – Nchekwa Ndi Obgenye Foundation, Comrade Chisom – Africa Indigenous Movement (AIM), Georgewill Enefa – Geotel Leadership and Citizens Development Center, Comrade Ayodele – Federal Workers Forum (FWF), Rivers Coalition, and Human Rights, and the Social Development and Environmental Foundation (HURSDEF).

Also, below is part of the Press Release by the leader of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, where he warned the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt.Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of a possible attack on some communities in Ebonyi, requesting him to beef up security in the state.

Igboayaka said:

“Unfortunately, Ndigbo are governed by transactional politicians in SouthEast, who deem their re-election more vital than delivering governance to the people.

“Gov Francis Nwifuru has prioritized All Progressive Congress (APC) party leadership in Ebonyi over addressing the security challenge in his State.

“As the SouthEast’s food basket, Ebonyi State is facing economic struggles resulting from the insecure environment hindering farmers from producing agricultural goods.

“Regrettably, the raping and killing of farmers by Fulani herdsmen in Ebonyi have affected the agriculture sector, particularly the production of “Ebonyi Special Rice”.

“As the Silent killings and kidnapping continue unabated in Effium areas, Gov Francis Nwifuru has fallen short in the paramount duty of Government, namely protecting lives and properties.

“The longstanding communal dispute between Effium and Ezza Effium in Ebonyi State, characterized by persistent violence and destruction, warrants intervention by a responsive administration.

“It is imperative that Governor Francis Nwifuru quits party leadership tussles and devises a permanent solution to the Effium and Ezza Effium community killings within 90 days.

“Obviously Izzi L.GA has been in danger of fulani herdsmen attack, villages like Ndigwe, Ataloga, Odokem, Ekile, Nduobasi, Ekpufu, Obakota etc should have indigenous community vigilante funded by State Government.

“Ado and Oju LGAs of Benue State are neighboring communities to Izzi of Ebonyi; our intelligence gathering indicates porous security. Governor Francis Nwifuru must prevent any recurrence of Fulani violence in that area. Implementing preventive measures is crucial to safeguarding the lives and properties of the people.

“Concentrated efforts should be made to establish indigenous community vigilantes in areas such as Obeagu, Egedegede, and Nkaleha in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, in order to counter potential attacks. Moreover, the Ebele people in Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, who reside in a remote area, and all communities in Ohaukwu, should establish community vigilantes that are equipped with modern security equipment to ensure their safety.

“It would be more beneficial for Gov Francis Nwifuru to concentrate on this and make it his priority instead of engaging in a political party leadership controversy With Sen. David Umahi because of the recent appointments of Chief Austin Umahi and others”.

THE PRESENT::

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, in his magnanimity gave the sum of N100 million (One hundred million naira) to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), when the group paid him homage during the last Christmas/New Year festive period.

According to reports, the Chairman of CAN, Rev Scamb Nwokolo decided to share the N100 million largesse to the few persons that went with him to Oferekpe, the governor’s home town and to some selected individuals, despite the objections and contrary opinions raised by his deputy against the idea.

AJM NEWS also gathered that most of the heads and leaders of the blocs of CAN at the local governments did not know that the governor gave a whooping sum of N100,000,000 to CAN, let alone knowing how it was shared.

Some of the leaders who were contacted by AJM NEWS reporter, including; the CAN Chairman/CSN leader, Afikpo LGA Chapter, Rev. Fr Acha Simon; the Secretary of CAN, Afikpo LGA Chapter, Apostle Nnachi Godwin Udume; the CCN leader, Rt.Rev. Samuel Agha Okoro; the ECWA/TEKAN leader, Pastor Habibu Maikarfi; the PFN leader, Pastor Jesse Okey Nweze – Afikpo LGA Chapter, said they didn’t know anything about the money.

However, Rt.Rev. Samuel Agha Okoro of the CCN, Afikpo, said that the sum of N26,000 was transferred to the bloc by the CAN Secretary, Afikpo LGA, Apostle Nnachi Godwin Udume, while the PFN Chairman, Pastor Jesse Okey Nweze, said he was told by the CAN Secretary, Afikpo LGA, that the sum of N30,000 would be given to the bloc, though the PFN is yet to receive the money, according to Pastor Jesse, adding that nothing was mentioned by the Secretary about the N100 million in connection to the money he promised to transfer to their blocs.

Meanwhile, information gotten from a credible source also revealed that a paltry sum of N9 million (Nine Million Naira) was given to the state chapter of PFN, out of the N100 million, which was also shared to nine selected PFN Executives, as allegedly directed by the CAN Chairman, Rev Nwokolo, thus:
Prof. Wilberforce Oti; Dr. Augustine Ukanwa; Rev. Abraham David; Rev.Dr. Emmanuel Nshi; Rev. Ezeudu; Rev. Nice Wogu; Rev. Mrs Rita Okpaku; Rev Nwandiagu; and Pastor Columbus Okpara, – all got N1 million each.

This time again, all the CAN BLOCS in the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State: Catholic Secretariat Of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Council Of Nigeria (CCN), Pentecostal Fellowship Of Nigeria (PFN), Organization Of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), and ECWA/TEKAN, are all spectators, as it was alleged that nothing was given to them from the N100 million largesse.

It would be recalled that the state governor, Rt.Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, during the inauguration of the present leadership of CAN, urged the CAN executives to see their inauguration “as a call to serve God and humanity, and not for merchandise.”
One member of CAN said:
“Looking at the ways money matters are handled, particularly as it concerns the sharing of money and items received from the government or external bodies by the organisation, CAN, one would rightly say without any fear of contradiction that some persons are now making a merchandise of their position in CAN, contrary to the governor’s advice, and no longer as “a call to serve God and humanity.”

Meanwhile, many have expressed their shock, disappointment and disapproval of the sharing formula used by the leadership of CAN in the distribution of the largesse given to them by the governor, noting that both the state and local government executives should be carried along during such sharing.

Lending his voice on the development, one time Chairman of PFN, Afikpo LGA Chapter, Bishop Prof. Francis Ashian Idika, urged the CAN Chairmen in the 13 local government areas of the state to sit up to their responsibilities, by making sure they are carried along adequately by the state CAN executives.
Bishop Idika added: “The local government chapters of CAN should be considered while sharing anything that comes from the government, because without the LGA Chapters, there would be no CAN at the state level.”

Some other members of CAN who spoke with our reporter from Abakaliki and other LGAs said they didn’t hear about the largesse, while a few others said they knew about it, but tactically avoided talking about how the money was shared with our reporter.
One of the the ministers, Pastor Okpaku said: “I heard about it! It’s true, but I can’t say anything regarding the sharing of the money.
“I noticed the way they were going about it selectively and in a shrouded manner, I removed myself.”

THE PAST::

Exactly One Year Ago

N50 MILLION EMBEZZLEMENT SCANDAL ROCKS CAN IN EBONYI, CRISIS GETS MESSIER

In February, 2024, due to an alleged misappropriation of N50 million Christmas largesse allotted to the Ebonyi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, by its (then embattled) Chairman, Reverend Scamb Nwokolo, the leadership of the association was factionalized.

The crisis that rocked the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ebonyi State chapter during the aforementioned period became so serious that the splinter group led by Pastor Dr Aloysius Nweke Ogah and Rev Dr Ogwale Ogwale vowed that Rev Scamb Nwokolo cannot lead the Ebonyi State chapter of CAN.

The splinter group, in a statement signed by the chairman, Pastor Dr Aloysius Nweke Ogah and Rev Ogwale Ogwale alleged that Nwokolo and cohorts refused to account for the money given to them on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ebonyi State.

A statement by the duo said, “The general public is hereby informed that due to the illegitimate and unscriptural inclusion of Rev. Dr. Scamb Chinedum Nwokolo, Bishop Dr. Anayo Ilo and Pastor Solomon Eriugo in Ebonyi State leadership structure of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, with their inconsistent lifestyle and refusal to give an account of over N50, 000,000,00.
“The members of the association have decided to abandon and avoid these three ministers and cohorts.
Consequently, a new membership structure to oversee the interest of CAN in Ebonyi State has been formed.

“Last Christmas (December 2023), His Excellency, the Governor of the State, gave Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Christmas largesse to the sum of 100,000,000 (One hundred million naira) and 1000 (one thousand) bags of rice, but he (Nwokolo) didn’t share up to twenty bags of rice, but took the remaining one to his Umunze town in Anambra State where he shared it and people were hailing him as a hero while ministers here in Ebonyi State celebrated Christmas on empty stomach.

“We are demanding that he should pay this money and we have written to the national office to inform them.
“Looking at some of these things, we cannot bear it any longer. Nwokolo was a vice chairman of CAN under Rev Fr Abraham Nwali and occupied the chair of head of blocs at the same time and always collected a double share of whatever was coming to CAN, including cars.
“So, we are no longer kidding. In 2017, in Anambra state, one Rev Dr John Ndubuisi from Abia State was elected as CAN Chairman and the same Nwokolo, alongside his group, protested until he was removed from office, paving the way for an Anambra indigene to hold the position, but he is here doing the same thing he fought in Anambra.
“All the members of CAN EXCO who signed the vote of confidence on Nwokolo were those who did not get the message we sent to them, but we have reached them to relay rightly what is happening. Any Ebonyi person rising up to deny what we are doing is a Judas Iscariot in our midst.
“We want to inform the general public that Ebonyi State has come of age and no more neo-colonialism, no more taking what belongs to us to another state.

“Since 1976 when CAN was created by Nbang, Nwokolo has been there for 48 years, which if Nwokolo is in civil service would have retired. He has no other business other than CAN. That is his ministry, business and source of income, which is why he is finding it difficult to leave.”

The statement continued:
“We want to state it categorically that if anybody had elected him in that election, it is null and void because it is contrary to the country’s constitution, nature and Christianity, and we are insisting that he returns every property of CAN with him and our money.”

However, in response to the allegations, the (embattled) state chairman of CAN, Rev Scamb Nwokolo claimed the splinter group are non-members of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Ebonyi.

His words:
“I don’t have anything with them, I don’t even know them. They’re not even members of CAN. “I can only react to issues coming from members of CAN, but for them, they’re not our members and you can check their antecedents.”

Several houses were burnt down as one person was reportedly killed on Saturday night, 18 January, 2025, during a communal clash between the people of Omege Agalagu and Ukwuinyima in Ikwo local government area of Ebonyi State.

At the time of this report, details of what led to the clashes were still uncertain, but a community source said the crisis was because of a fight that occurred in November 2024 when a woman who was allegedly raped and killed was buried.

According to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity, “More than 10 houses and property worth millions of Naira have been burnt to ashes. The government needs to do something.”
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, on Sunday , confirmed that one person was killed in the incident.

According to him, two youths from the two communities fought and one of them from Omege was stabbed.

“He, however, died later in hospital.
“His death led to members of his community attacking Omege and burning down some mud houses with thatch roofs.
“But Police mobilised and stopped them from inflicting further damage. The crisis has been curtailed at the moment.”

The Police spokesman said operatives of the Command were maintaining order in the area and had also launched an investigation.
He said the man who stabbed the dead victim had also been arrested.

OHANAEZE NDIGBO ELECTION: OKIRO’S PROJECTED CANDIDACY WILL EXACERBATE IGBO DISUNITY FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS – SAYS OHANAEZE YOUTH COUNCIL

OHANAEZE NDIGBO ELECTION: OKIRO’S PROJECTED CANDIDACY WILL EXACERBATE IGBO DISUNITY FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS – SAYS OHANAEZE YOUTH COUNCIL

…Okiro’s Candidacy Imperils Igbo Unity

Otu Obiahu
AJM NEWS

Amidst the recent controversy surrounding the state of origin of former Inspector General of Police Chief Mike Okiro (Rtd) as regards the Ohanaeze Ndigbo election, the Apex Socio-cultural Youth organization of Igbo race, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), led by Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, has cautioned Ndigbo that Mike Okiro’s candidacy would hinder the progress made towards unity among Igbo ethnic groups in Nigeria by approximately 100 years.

It is on record that Mike Okiro(Rtd), a former Inspector General, enrolled in the Nigeria Police Force in 1977, with Rivers State as his initial state of origin, but it is indeed a fact that his present state of origin is Imo State.

It has come to attention that Chief Michael Mbamaonyeukwu Okiro, also known as Mike Okiro, is not originally from Rivers State, but rather Imo State. Nonetheless, he enrolled in the Nigerian Police Force under the Rivers State quota, likely due to the benefits resulting from the Biafra civil War. Although he may be perceived as a Rivers man in terms of his professional affiliation, having joined the Nigeria police, his actual village, community, and Local Government are all located in Imo State.

Following our exhaustive investigation, it was discovered that Chief Mike Okiro hails from Ogwumankwu village, Obiakpu community, Egbema, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Imo State. Otu Egobueze is his age grade name, with Christopher Nze Umezuruike acting as secretary. Other prominent members of his age grade are Chief Clement Mmata, Mr. Owuamala Stephen, and Chief Toke Gilbert, etc. Historical records indicate that Chief Mike Okiro’s late younger brother, Eze Ozoemela Okiro, was the traditional ruler of Obiakpu community Egbema, Imo State.

The predominant concern among Ndigbo with regard to the controversy surrounding Chief Mike Okiro’s proposed candidacy by some dubious politicians is why did he indicate interest in running for the Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General position in 2021, during Imo’s turn, if he is from Rivers State.

According to the results of the investigation, Chief Mike Okiro was present at a meeting held at Chief Iwuanyanwu’s Class house in Owerri, alongside other presidential candidates from Imo State, such as Dr. Jeo Nworgu, Dr. Chris Asoluka, and Prof. George Obiozor, at the time it was the turn of Ndi Imo to produce president General Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

It is unfortunate that certain political cliques are now persuading Chief Mike Okiro, who had expressed interest and taken part in the harmonization meeting for presidential candidates for the office of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo during the constitutional transition of Imo state in 2021, to declare his intention to contest the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Presidential election at Rivers state’s turn in 2025.

Chief Mike Okiro is facing pressure from certain political scavengers to abandon his principles and adopt a double standard, a move that would erode his personal integrity and bring discredit to the noble office of Ndigbo, the most respected and esteemed office in Igboland.
We are aware of the individuals, both internal and external, who are promoting Mike Okiro’s candidacy for the presidency of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. These contractors have forfeited their right to rest or sleep and will not be allowed to do so in Igboland. We advise these opportunistic politicians to cease their self-destructive and divisive agenda against Ndigbo.

We strongly advise those responsible for sowing disunity in Igboland between our indigenous Igbo brothers and sisters in Rivers to halt their actions without delay or we will be forced to name them before Ndigbo and they will bear the brunt of such social evil in Igboland.

Given that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is analogous to an Ogbako Umunna, it is erroneous and unconstitutional for Mike Okiro, an attendee of Ogbako Umunna meeting in Ogwumankwu village, Obiakpu community, Egbema, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Imo State, to have his police enrollment documents exploited by some political opportunists for an Ogbako Umunna Cultural organization position, similar to Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Those who comprehend the broader implications of the nativity/Igbo identity crisis on our Igbo brothers in Rivers state should diligently refrain from exacerbating the harm inflicted on the Igbo identity of Igbo individuals in Rivers state.

Those advocating for Chief Mike Okiro’s candidacy are indeed posing a substantial threat to Igbo Unity. In the event that the conspirators implement their plans, the controversy and crisis generated will persist for a hundred years, far exceeding the four-year tenure, and will have severe repercussions on social and political structures.

It is imperative that Igbo elders/leaders be mindful of the potential consequences of their actions and statements, which could lead to lasting divisions among the younger generation of Igbo people from Rivers State and other South-Eastern states.

Igbo youths are determined to prevent Igbo elders/leaders from perpetuating a mess that our generation will ultimately suffer from as a result of their selfishness, greed, and possessive plans for power and wealth.

Up until this point, Chief Mike Okiro has not made a personal declaration of his intention to run for President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and we respect his decision to reserve his options. However, if he eventually by persuasive accept to throw his hat into the ring or he’s is unconstitutionally imposed, the fallout will be severe and have far-reaching consequences in Igboland.

NPF ADDRESSES FALSE CLAIMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

PRESS RELEASE

NPF ADDRESSES FALSE CLAIMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Fake News

Condemns False Information, Urges Fact Check.

The Nigeria Police Force hereby addresses and clarifies a false and misleading claim circulating on X (formerly Twitter), made by one Adamu Garba Zango, a lecturer at Baze University. Mr. Zango, while recirculating a picture which has been in the internet archives since 2019, alleged that it was that of a Deputy Commissioner of Police serving at the Kaduna State Police Command who was arrested for supplying firearms to bandits and kidnappers. He further shared the said image to support this baseless claim.

It is pertinent to state that the individual depicted in the shared photograph is not a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force. Investigations have revealed that the man in the image is one Kingsley Udoyen, a civilian who was arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on January 2nd, 2019 for impersonating an Assistant Commissioner of Police. At the time of his arrest, Udoyen was found to have been using a fake police rank to defraud and intimidate unsuspecting members of the public. Items recovered from his residence included an English pistol without ammunition and portraits of various police ranks.

It is also important to point out that there is no connection between the Kaduna State Police Command and the false allegations propagated by Mr. Zango. The Nigeria Police Force condemns the spread of false information, which not only tarnishes the image of the Force but also undermines public trust and safety.

Members of the public are urged to verify information from credible sources before sharing. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the pursuit of justice. Spreading unverified claims is a violation of laws concerning defamation and cybercrime, and the Police may pursue appropriate legal action against individuals or entities involved in disseminating such falsehoods. TELECOM COMPANIES PUSH FOR 100% HIKE IN DATA, CALLS, SMS, ETC, WARN OF SERVICE DISRUPTIONS

TELECOM COMPANIES PUSH FOR 100% HIKE IN DATA, CALLS, SMS, ETC, WARN OF SERVICE DISRUPTIONS

Telecom Companies

Otu Obiahu
AJM NEWS

Nigerian telecommunications companies have proposed a 100 percent tariff increase to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to address rising operational costs.
The proposal, which has been submitted to the government, is currently pending approval.
The request is driven by significant financial pressures resulting from inflation, fluctuating exchange rates, and increased service delivery costs.
CEO of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, emphasized the challenges the telecom industry is facing due to escalating operational expenses.
During a television interview on Arise News, he noted that key costs, such as diesel, power generation, and raw materials, have soared, with diesel prices rising from N230 per liter before the COVID-19 pandemic to over N1,000 per liter.
“These cost increases are outpacing revenue growth. If large operators like MTN and Airtel are struggling, the impact on smaller players and the ecosystem is even more severe,” Toriola stated.
He also pointed out that the exchange rate devaluation has pushed up the cost of importing critical infrastructure like base stations, which now cost nearly four times more than they did two years ago.
Toriola said these challenges have forced telecom companies to request a tariff hike to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector.

Losses Had By Telecom Sector

The financial strain has been further compounded by significant losses in recent months.
MTN declared a loss of N514.93 billion for the nine months ending September 2024 despite a 33.7 percent growth in service revenue.
Airtel also reported a 46.9 percent drop in its revenue during the same period. These losses have made the need for a tariff review even more urgent, with operators warning that without the necessary adjustments, service quality and availability could deteriorate.
The chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), Gbenga Adebayo, echoed these concerns, describing the telecom sector as “under siege.” He pointed out that rising energy costs, inflation, and exchange rate volatility have made it increasingly difficult for operators to expand their networks and maintain service quality.

As many families in Nigeria are faced by the present economic quagmire, which is biting very hard on its citizens, with many struggling to survive, a Non-governmental Organization, The Eleje Legacy Foundation (ELF) has again brought hope and succor to over 1000 rural women in Ozizza Community, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The ELF, which is also a Non-profit making organization, on December 21, 2024, in the spirit of the Yuletide and new year celebrations, distributed quality wrappers, various food items, and cash worth several millions of Naira to the women.

During the sharing of the items; 850 women went home with wrappers; 34 persons got a cash gift of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each, to enable them start up businesses, while 24 others received the sum of N30,000 (Thirty Thousand Naira) each, to support their existing businesses, totalling N4.1 million (Four Million One Hundred And Twenty Thousand Naira).
Food items shared included 35 Bags of 50kg Rice; 24 Gallons of 25 Litres of Groundnut oil, and 26 Cartons of Tomatoes.

The Eleje Legacy Foundation was established in honour of Omeroha Inyang Eleje and Ezinne Beatrice Eleje, the late parents of the great Eleje Family, with the mandate of advocating for the underprivileged women and children, especially the girl child, through the provision of healthcare, food, clothing, shelter, education, legal advocacy, emotional support, as well as provision of platform for women to act as agents of social change through advocacy and capacity building.

It is also worthy of note that the membership of Eleje Legacy Foundation cuts across all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Omeroha Inyang Eleje and Ezinne Beatrice Eleje of the blessed memory.

The NGO had in several ways, both recently and in the past, rendered unquantifiable assistance to the less privileged women and families in Amikpo, Ozizza Afikpo Local Government Area, and beyond.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eleje Legacy Foundation (ELF), Dr. Beatrice O. Onyeador, who also sponsored the event, encouraged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items, particularly those who got financial assistance.
Dr. Onyeador further pledged to extend the kind gesture to other communities in Afikpo, in their next outing; noting “it’s time to throw this kindness beyond Amikpo and Ozizza, so that women in other communities in Afikpo could also benefit”.

In their response, the
women who could not hold their joy by singing and dancing to some melodious tunes, thanked Dr. Beatrice Onyeador and the entire Eleje Family immensely for always remembering them in every festive period, and for their act of love towards them.
The beneficiaries also promised to make good use of the items received.

AJM NEWS reporter, Otu Obiahu, also gathered that The Eleje Legacy Foundation had in their 2023 outing, distributed wrappers, food items and cash gifts worth over Five Million Naira to the women of Ozizza, Afikpo LGA.
Also, in February 2022, The Eleje Legacy Foundation constructed a Solar Powered Utra Modern Library named “INYA ELEJE MEMORIAL LIBRARY” at Government Primary School, Afikpo, which it also handed over to Ebonyi State Government, as its contribution for effective Research, Teaching and Learning.

WE ARE DETERMINED TO TAKE NIGERIA TO THE PROMISED LAND, SAYS PRESIDENT TINUBU, AS HE LAUDS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY FOR SUPPORT

AJM NEWS

President Bola Tinubu said his administration is encouraged by the National Assembly’s support over the last 19 months and is determined to take Nigeria to the Promised Land.

The President spoke Wednesday while receiving Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers of the National Assembly at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The New Year homage, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, preceded a similar visit by members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

“Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. You have made my day by coming on this visit. Happy New Year. May God bless you and
our country and give our nation more prosperity.
“The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn.

“Your commitment to value addition and bringing about the spirit of can do and must do is for all of us together.
“It is for us to build a nation. We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be anything but enslaved people, but we say no. We are determined, we are capable, and we are resolute, and we will be there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,” President Bola Tinubu said at the meeting to the Government of the Federation, and several ministers, were all former members of the National Assembly

‘The National Assembly should consider itself lucky, and to God be the glory, Mr President, the National Assembly today is more united than ever.

“The National Assembly is more fulfilled than ever before because there is nothing we have ever knocked on your door to request for the National Assembly that you have not obliged.

Tragedy struck as a mother and her three children, and two other family members were reportedly chocked to death by generator fumes in Ukwa West local government area of Abia State.

The incident happened at Ofoji Street in Obehie, Ukwa West on Wednesday.

AJM NEWS gathered that the
victims who hail from Isiala Ngwa North local government area of Abia State but resided in Ukwa West, left their generator behind their building and went to sleep, leaving their windows open, which gave room for the generator fumes to come into their house, resulting in the untimely death of the family members.

The deceased persons include the mother and her three children, sister to the woman and her brother-in-law.
While five persons died on the spot, the younger sister to the mother of three, who was found unconscious at the time neighbours became aware of the incident, was said to have died in the hospital the following day, Thursday; as the husband is the only surviving member of the family because he was away from home when the tragedy happened.

However, due to the increasing rate of deaths caused by generator fumes across the country, one concerned Nigerian has implored the federal government to seriously embark on enlightenment campaign on dangers of generator fumes.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka confirmed the deaths and that investigation had begun.
