The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Publicity Secretary in Ebonyi State Nwoba Chika Nwoba slumped in court on Wednesday.

Nwoba slumped around 3 pm when he was brought to the Magistrate Court 2 inside the Ebonyi Judiciary Headquarters Abakaliki by Police operatives.

He had been in police detention since Sunday when members of Ebubeagu Security outfit in the State arrested and handed him over to the Police.

He is being accused of spreading fake news on social media, a crime punishable under the controversial cybercrimes law signed into law last year.
Ebonyi PDP had claimed that he was beaten by Ebubeagu officials who arrested him before the Police rescued and placed him on arrest.
The Police had failed to arraign him on Tuesday despite bringing him to the court premises.
His lawyer complained on Tuesday that the Police refused him medical treatment despite the injuries he sustained from the alleged beating.
On Wednesday, he slumped as he was about entering the court.
Efforts to resuscitate him failed, forcing the Police to rush him out of the court premises possibly to a hospital.
However as journalists prepared to leave to file their reports, he was brought back by the Police.
His lawyer, Luke Nkwegu told reporters the Police said they were ordered to bring him back for arraignment dead or alive.
The Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Abakaliki presided by Blessing Chukwu adjoined the matter till 14th of January 2022.
The court also ordered Nwoba be sent to the Police Clinic in Abakaliki for treatment.
The Court gave the order following an application by the PDP spokesperson’s lawyer, Luke Nkwegu.
Nkwegu had prayed the court not to entertain the matter since his client was not in a capacity to stand trial due to ill health.
Nwoba was carried into the court by over five men and placed on a seat in the dock.
Two policemen held him throughput the period of the court session to avoid his falling to the ground.
He did not respond to his name being called when the matter was called.

Despite the objection by the Police prosecutor, Mathis Eze, the judge ordered that he be taken to the Police clinic for treatment.

2023: NO AMOUNT OF INTIMIDATION, BLACKMAIL WILL MAKE NORTH CEDE PRESIDENCY TO SOUTH, SAYS BUHARI’S AIDE

Former Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters (House of Representatives), Abdulrahman Suleman Kawu Sumaila, has said the North will not cede presidency to the South based on blackmail and intimidation.

He said this while reacting to an interview granted to one of the national dailies by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Ngige had said any political party that fields a Northern candidate in the 2023 presidential election would lose.

Sumaila, a former member of the House of Representatives, said Ngige and his likes should bury their heads in shame for trying to intimidate and blackmail the North on the 2023 presidency.

According to him, the North would only cede power to the Southern part of the country through negotiations, dialogue, consensus and understanding, not rantings in the media.

Power shift has been a major topic in the buildup to the 2o23 general elections. At separate meetings held on July 5 in Lagos and September 16 in Enugu, the southern governors had said the presidency should be zoned to their region.

However, in a communique signed by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau and chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, the governors said the position of their colleagues in the South is condemnable.

“The Forum observed that some Northern State Governors had earlier expressed views for a power-shift to three geopolitical zones in the South with a view to promoting unity and peace in the nation. Notwithstanding their comments, the forum unanimously condemns the statement by the Southern Governors Forum that the Presidency must go to the South,” the communiqué read.

“The statement is quite contradictory with the provision of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended, that the elected President shall: score the majority votes; score at least 25% of the votes cast in 2/3 States of the Federation. In the case of run-up, simple majority wins the election,” it added.

THE ABDUCTION OF NWOBA CHIKA NWOBA: QUESTION ARISING FROM THE EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT AND OTHER MATTERS

In the account of BARR IFEANYI EMMANUEL NWORIE, an eyewitness and driver of the vehicle from which Nwoba Chika Nwoba was allegedly abducted, brutalized and eventually “arrested”, two persons were specifically mentioned as the INITIATOR and EXECUTORS of the heinous crime.
1. Okemini F (aka Jango) “who came close to my car and later went back to his Siena car branded FON otherwise known as Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru youths vanguard and thereafter never knew the said Siena car was following us and double crossed us at water reservoir along Same Abakaliki-Enugu Express way and every effort to bye pass nor reverse my car proved abortive and there after called his cohorts led by..”.
2. Ikechukwu Eze (aka Power) “who came with his dreaded bandits and shoots periodically on the air with their pump-action riffle and beating Chika Nwoba was is the publicity Secretary of my party PDP to the point of death and further threw him into the boot of the said Siena car..”. Also, “while they were torturing Chika Nwoba, his phone fell down and Ikechukwu Eze aka power picked the phone and I requested the phone be given to me and he threatened that if I say it again, they will unleash the demons in them on me”.

Further inquiry has revealed the following:

A. There is one OKEMINI F JANGO, who is the PROTOCOL OFFICER OF THE SPEAKER OF THE EBONYI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY; therefore an appointee of the Ebonyi State Government. The picture of this Jango, culled from his Facebook page, is attached hereto.

B. There is PANCHRIST I. EZE (POWER), who is currently the SA INTERNAL SECURITY TO THE EBONYI STATE GOVERNOR AND COMMANDER IN THE EBUBEAGU SECURITY NETWORK. The picture of this public officer, adorning the full regalia of his Ebubeagu uniform as obtained from Facebook, is also attached hereto.

THE QUESTION.
Are these two public officers/appointees of the Ebonyi State government whose publicly acquired images are displayed, the same as the persons identified and named as PRINCIPAL SUSPECTS in the NCN abduction and brutalization saga by the SOLE EYEWITNESS?

The police and the state government must provide clear answers to this question; for therein lies the understanding of the travails of NCN.

The two government officials should also speak up to clear their names if they are not the same persons alluded to by the eyewitness.

LAST LINE:
Whether NCN is being held by the police on account of a petition or other allegations against him, the police has a bounden duty to make same public. As the State Publicity Secretary of the leading opposition party in the state; his arrest and detention assumes a public interest status. While no one is above the law, opposition leaders must not be muzzled, harassed and intimidated into silence or even eliminated with the connivance of the police.

Accordingly, a public statement is long overdue from the police stating the circumstances of his arrest; and what offense he is being held for.

Finally, the police authorities must resist any pressure at “trumping up charges”intended only to quickly arraign him before inferior courts without jurisdiction thereby keeping him away in Awaiting Trial to satisfy any hidden political intents.

The police is a key organ of democratic sustenance, like the press and same as political opposition. No one organ should work or be used to diminish the other.

APC BOYS DESTROYED SEN. ANYIM’S STATUE IN ISHIAGU, EBONYI PDP PUBLICITY SECRETARY ALLEGES

The statue of former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim has been destroyed in his Ishiagu Community, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to information made available by the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Nwoba Chika Nwoba, the destruction of the statue of the PDP Chieftain, Sen. Anyim, who is currently vying for the position of the president of Nigeria, was carried out by some group of young men believed to be members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State chapter.

Chika further alleged that the destruction could not have been done without the knowledge of the state governor, Dave Umahi, adding that such provocative act is capable of throwing the state into some serious political and social disorder.

He said: “Report has it that some APC boys destroyed the statue of Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim in his community in Ebonyi State. Could they have done it without the consent of Gov. David Umahi?

“This is how elements working for the Ebonyi State Government ignite fire of anarchy and when the fire starts burning, Ebonyi State Government will turn to blame God”.

The PDP spokesman however maintained that no level of provocation by the ruling party would make PDP in Ebonyi to stoop so low to crisis, noting that the present communal crisis in Effium was also caused same way.

“With this, Ebonyi people can now know those causing troubles in the state.

“That’s how they started it at Effiom and today, the government is sweating.

“No degree of provocation will make PDP to yield to crisis. But it’s important that Ebonyi people be the judge themselves. If destroying a statue of Anyim built by the Ishiagu community will win elections for the APC in Ebonyi State, so be it. But it’ll never do. The world can see the tendencies of David Umahi and his political party. It’s well”, he added.

Former Governor of Abia State, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has told the Igbo speaking people to have faith in President Muhammadu Buhari.

The politician was optimistic that the incumbent leader may surprise the people of South-East ahead of 2023.
The lawmaker reminded his tribesmen that President Buhari’s single biggest capital project is being constructed in the South-East, noting that the N369billion second Niger Bridge constructed by the All Progressive Congress, APC government is so far its costliest project.

Sen. Orji Kalu made the observations on Thursday while addressing his Camp Neya country home in Igbere, during a meeting with members of his political structures in Abia.

“The President still has 17 months in office and has a role to play in 2023. He may surprise the South-East zone”, Daily Post quoted Kalu as saying.

The ex-governor said the Buhari administration’s commitment to 100 per cent budget implementation in 2020 and 2021 was unprecedented.
Kalu added: “No past president or governor in the country has been able to achieve full implementation of the budget since the present democratic dispensation.”

While urging his supporters to remain committed to the 2023 governorship project and install a person that would deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state, Kalu told his supporters to also get their voters’ cards ready ahead of the 2023 general elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he is looking forward to the end of his term because “age is catching up with him.”

The president said this on Thursday in an interview on NTA.
When asked how he feels now that he has turned 79, Buhari responded that being president is difficult job and that he is looking forward to the conclusion of his term in 2023.

The president stated that he has faithfully served Nigeria as a minister, governor, and now president and that he believes that when his term ends, Nigerians will recognize that he has done his best for the country.

“About my age, I see my colleagues, they are now resting, and I assure you that I look forward to the next 17 months when I too will be less busy,“ he said.

“The age is telling on me, working now for six, seven to eight hours per day in the office is no joke — there are questions of executive council, memos from as many states as possible to be considered virtually every week. Really, it’s a lot of hard work, but as I’ve said, I asked for it and I cannot complain.

“I have been a governor, I have been a minister, and I’m in my second term as president. So, I’ve gone through all the system and really, what else can I do for this country? I have given my best.”

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has vowed to publicly announce the names of those behind the spate of insecurity and incessant killings in the state on Tuesday.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri.

Emelumba said, “the governor will use the occasion of the 6th edition of the IMO stakeholders forum to name those who are sponsors and financiers of insecurity in the state.”

According to the Commissioner, “the Government is in possession of crack evidence of the involvement of those responsible for the carnage.”

Emelumba said, “apart from the public being availed of those individuals, the governor will update IMO people on his performance in the last two years.”

BENUE MEAT SELLERS BLAME GOV. ORTOM FOR HIGH COST OF COW MEAT, PARTICULARLY IN THIS FESTIVE PERIOD

Contrary to the belief that beef costs high in Benue at the approach of Yuletide, butchers and meat sellers blame the situation on the removal of meat “subsidy’’ by government.
They say the law banning open grazing, which they termed “removal of meat subsidy’’ is at the root of the high costs.
Meat sellers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Makurdi said prices of cow meat went up because Gov. Samuel Ortom signed the anti-open grazing Bill into law.

Mr Inusa Bala said that by signing the Bill, Ortom sent cows and herders away from Benue.
He lamented that livestock guards in Benue always searched for herders into deep forests to impound their cows, some of which die in custody.

The herders, he said, needed to pay heavy fines to re-acquire the surviving ones.
“For example, if you have 100 cows and they are arrested, maybe about five will die in custody and you will still have to sell about 10 cows to be able to settle the fine.

“The anti-open grazing law of Benue has caused a lot of challenges for us meat sellers as it has made it difficult for us to buy cows because of the absence of herders.

“Before now, a herder would call you on phone to buy his cows and it was at cheap rates. That is no longer the case.
“We meat sellers now travel to as far as Kano, Katsina, Plateau and Nasarawa to buy cows.

“Sometimes, the cow dealers will refuse to sell to us because we are from Benue and after much pleadings they’d sell to us exorbitantly,’’ Bala complained.

Another meat seller, Mr Mohammed Abubakar told NAN that travelling to other states to take cows to Benue had been very challenging because of the heavy “taxes’’ to be paid at police checkpoints before reaching Benue.

“If we manage to reach Makurdi, we still pay other taxes to Lands and Survey Department; to veterinary doctors; to environmentalists and to our union.

“The money we spend to bring cows to Benue is too much, but if herders were not sent out of Benue as a result of the law, prices of cow meat would not have been this high,’’ he said.

Mr Martin Nwachukwu, who also sells meat, said big cows which used to be sold for N250,000 now costs N700,000, while the small ones which used to go for less than N100,000 now costs N150,000.
He explained further that a kilogram of cow meat which used to be N1400 now costs N2,500.

Nwachukwu appealed to Benue government to reconsider the anti-open grazing law and find a way to accommodate cattle breeders to bring prices down.

The All Progressives Congress, APC Ebonyi State wish to condemn in strong terms the call for disbandment of Ebube -Agu Security outfit by Ebonyi State Chairman of People’s Democratic Party PDP, Mr Tochukwu Okorie. We have looked at the content of their publication, and it is crystally clear that Ebonyi PDP is a party whose occupants are featured with psychological and intellectual immaturity.

The disbandment call is derision on the collective security of Ebonyi residents and their property. It has confirmed our earlier stand that PDP in Ebonyi State has no pretty plan, neither have they a detailed formulation of a program of action, nor an overall designed or objective manifesto for Ebonyi people as 2023 approaches, that is why they have continued to play inconsequential politics with the security of lives and property of Ebonyi residents, using false alarm and fake news as their driving tools.

The establishment of EbubeAgu in Ebonyi State is a security matter, and the call for its disbandment is a total display of ignorance of the law by Ebonyi State PDP. The beauty and prime role of every government is the security of lives and property of her people. Let me inform them if they do not know that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as Amended recognizes the state Governors as the Chief Security Officers of their respective states, Ebonyi State inclusive. It is therefore, incumbent on Governor David Nweze Umahi to design a workable means of securing his people and their property, no matter the group or its name.

You may recall that sociopolitical, traditional and religious leaders of Southeast Zone were among the discussants of the establishment of Ebube-Agu in the zone, and it was occasioned by the contemptuous and gruesome attack on security agents, public institutions and political leaders by unknown gun men. Sen Anyim Pius Anyim , Sen. Dr. Sam Egwu, and other leaders of the opposition PDP in Ebonyi State were in attendance at the Lion House, Government House, Enugu State ,where the truce was reached. Why is Ebonyi PDP still wailing or is the new Chairman seeking for cheap popularity? It should be at the discretion of each of the governors to execute or implement the decision in accordance to the security situations in their respective states.

Ebonyi State however, is sovereign and independent like any other states in Southeast, as such, should work on its own security peculiarities. Gov Umahi has done great in ensuring that the residents of Ebonyi State and their property are highly secured, and it is noteworthy that residents of the state should appreciate and support his genuine moves in securing the state despite party affiliation.

May I state categorically that there is a law that established Ebube Agu Security Outfit in Ebonyi State. Their prime role is to assist and interface with other security agents in the state in community policing, and it is for the collective safety of the people and their property. There is no doubt that criminality in the state has been significantly reduced since Ebube Agu was formed. People can now move by night at any part of the state without molestation by anyone. Ebube Agu has stopped snatching of people’s belongings, no more kidnapping, no more robbery attacks, communal crises have reduced to appreciable extents.

We are aware that PDP in Ebonyi State has imported assorted arms into the state, waiting for their expected time to unleash criminality in the state. It is only a man with a criminal intents that will shiver at the sight of security agents, otherwise, PDP members in Ebonyi State should have not been disturbed by the presence of Ebube Agu, We therefore, wish to reassure Ebonyi residents that APC led government in Ebonyi State ably led by His Excellency, Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi Fnse,Fnate, will not waiver in protecting them and their property from the activities of hoodlums. We therefore warn opposition elements in the state that any unauthorized person caught with any weapon will face the full weight of the law.

To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
