FULANI HERDSMEN HAVE NO OPTION THAN TO CARRY AK-47 FOR PROTECTION, SAYS BAUCHI GOVERNOR

The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, says Fulani herdsmen carry weapons because they need to protect themselves.

The governor ascribed the practice to the failure of society and government to guarantee the safety of herders while in the forest.

Commenting on recent developments in the south-west, Mohammed warned against the criminalisation of the entire Fulani tribe.

The governor spoke on Thursday during the press week celebration in Bauchi.

“Because the Fulani man is practising the tradition of pastoralism, he has been exposed to the vagaries of the forest, cattle rustlers who carry guns, kill him and take away his commonwealth, which is the cows,” he said.

“He has no option than to carry AK47 because the society and the government are not protecting him, what is his fault; it’s the fault of the government and the people. You don’t criminalize all of them, because, in every tribe, there are criminals.”

Mohammed also criticised Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue, whom he accused of fuelling the criminalization of the Fulani tribe.

He said: “The governor that is most wrong is the governor of Benue State, my brother and colleague Governor Samuel Ortom; he started all these.

“If you don’t accommodate other tribes, we are also accommodating your tribes in Bauchi and other places. We have so many Tiv people farming in Alkaleri, in Tafawa Balewa, farming in Bogoro LGAs; has anybody told them to go?

“We have not; because it’s their own inalienable rights to be there. We have Yoruba people in Bauchi, for over 150 years, even before the birth of Nigeria; some of them have risen to become permanent Secretaries in Bauchi, in Gombe and in Borno.

“You can see what our colleagues in the south-west and some from the south-east are doing. If cyber crime is practised by one tribe, you don’t criminalise all the tribe that they are criminals.”

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has said Nigeria needs urgent intervention from the international community before the security situation in the country denigrates into a civil war.

Speaking on Tuesday when he appeared on an Arise TV Morning Show programme, the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin, said those projecting a civil war are not beating the drums of war but are simply being honest about the reality of the situation.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari is maintaining a “sinful silence” over the worsening security situation in Nigeria.

He warned that if a civil war erupts in Nigeria, the world and the international community will be badly affected.

Odumakin also defended a similar comment by Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, who earlier observed that Buhari’s refusal to speak up might lead to a civil war.

He said: “I agree with Soyinka that the president must speak up, the president is maintaining a sinful silence over what these herders are doing, but the world and international community should be interested in Nigeria at this moment, they should get Nigeria out of this mess.

“It is clear now that the possibility of internal solutions is getting limited. We don’t have an authority in leadership that can get us out of this mess and the implication of war in Nigeria for the rest of the world is very serious, therefore, they should get on their feet now and be interested in Nigeria.

The Buhari government told us we are going to the next level but their next level is taking us to a dangerous level in Nigeria, the world must rise now to save Nigeria from this mess.

“The nomination of the former security chiefs as ambassadors tells you that there is an agenda that they have kept for a long time and part of this is assistance to herdsmen by Nigerian soldiers. This could be part of that hideous agenda that is ravaging the country and putting it on the edge of a precipice. That’s why I said the international community should save the country.”

Odumakin said had it been events in the South-West in the past few months happened in the North, the situation would have already led to a civil war.

He said, “No one is beating the drums of war, people are painting the reality, if what is happening in the South-West today, let’s say some Yoruba boys have gone to do 1% of that in the North, in the past few months, there would have been a war in this country by now.

“The daughter of Afenifere leader, (Pa Reuben) Fasoranti, was killed in Ondo State by herdsmen, a first-class king was killed in the afternoon. So many prominent people were killed and because we don’t want a war situation, we maintained our calm, but it will get to a point that we will say enough is enough; when the victims will be made to rise and say enough of this.

The first person that will talk is Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who openly defended the killing of Southern Kaduna people. He said he would even pay Fulani herdsmen some money.

“Since they have been killing people in the South-West, we have not heard them from the Northern Elders Forum say anything about it and now that the victims are saying we have had enough of it… but unfortunately, we don’t have a government. Instead of defending the rights to life of people, you see that anytime these Fulani herdsmen kill people, the first line of defence is the presidency.

“When the governor of Ondo State gave a lawful order to herdsmen to vacate the forest, it was Garba Shehu that first defended the rights of the herdsmen to the forest as if they are animals and not human beings.”
Odumakin lamented that the country was being flooded by Fulani people from neighbouring countries like the Niger Republic.

Quoting a thesis by an American political scientist, Samuel Huntington, that people’s cultural and religious identities will be the primary source of conflict in the post-Cold War world, Odumakin argued that future wars would be fought not between countries, but between cultures.

He said, “Those who share the same civilisations spread across boundaries will be coming together, that is what we are seeing that the Fulanis are coming all over Nigeria, and the President has even opened the door for them so that they can get visas on arrival.

“You will remember that in 1985, at OAU summit, President Buhari as President of Nigeria had to take a decision about OAU Secretary-General, a Nigerien from Niger was contesting with a Nigerian from Igboland.

“Our President of Nigeria voted for the Fulani man from the Niger Republic and all we are witnessing today is that clash of civilisations and you will remember that during the last election a large delegation came from the Niger Republic to join the All Progressives Congress rally in Kano and a Fulani man saw more affinity with a Fulani man from the Niger Republic than a Nigerian from Nigeria.

“So it is that clash of civilisations that is rocking Nigeria. Only this morning I was reading the papers that Sheikh Gumi was asking governors to use their security votes to answer the demands of the bandits. If not for a clash of civilisations, I don’t know why any fellow Nigerian will make that kind of statement.

“Look at the killings going on in the South-West and across the country, have you seen any Fulani North condemning the killing? No, because it means nothing to them and their civilisation and that’s why Nigeria is seriously on the edge of a precipice.

“Nigeria is being racked by a strong clash of civilisations that may wreck it if nothing is done.”

OYC LAUNCHES OPERATION STOP POLICE AND ARMY ROBBERY AND EXTORTION ON HIGHWAYS IN IGBO LAND

The apex youth body of the Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), wish to bring the attention of the public to the launching of “Operation Stop Army and Police Robbery” in Igboland.

Speaking to newsmen in Enugu on Sunday, through the National President, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, after its National Working Committee meeting, the Council revealed that the Nigeria police and army personnel usually give bribe to their senior officers in order to be posted to states in the South-South and South East regions.

“This evil act of paying heavy bribe to police and army senior officers to be deployed or posted in strategic locations in Igbo land, must cease henceforth or they will meet their waterloo.

“To operatives of the Nigeria police and army, the checkpoint in Alaigbo is very lucrative, as they subject drivers to all kinds of humiliation, torture, harassment and intimidation, robbing motorists using the instrument of their uniforms and guns,” Comrade Igboayaka revealed.

OYC specifically urged the Inspector General of Police and Chief of Army Staff to immediately withdraw those criminals on uniform at Owerri-Portharcourt expressway, Owerri-Onitsha expressway, Okigwe Afikpo road, Owerri-Onitsha express road etc whose duties is now to rob motorists and extort from hundred to two hundred naira from them at the checkpoints under gun point.

OYC has resolved to deal ruthlessly, any police or army personnel caught in Igboland robbing motorists. Therefore, the Council urged Governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Hope Uzodinma, Nyesom Wike, Willie Obiano, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Dave Umahi, Ifeanyi Okowa to wade into the matter before it is too late.

The Council stated that it have mapped out every plan to teach army and police how to be disciplined in discharging their duties, stressing that any army or police who cannot resist the urge of demanding or collecting bribes and robbing from motorists should quietly resign from the force, otherwise the risks of  ending his life through the robbing of motorists is inevitable.

Comrade Igboayaka lamented that hundreds of youths of Igbo extraction have lost their lives in the hands of these criminal police and army personnel at the slightest provocation, while extorting and robbing money from them at various checkpoints in Igbo land.

“Resign now if you can’t avoid taking bribe or robbing motorists on the highways in Igbo land or we ruthlessly engage you while robbing. Comrade,” Igboayaka urges Nigeria police and army officers posted in Igbo land.
There is no robbing or extortion of motorist on the highways in the Northern Nigeria, police and army grown wings in Igbo land, but we assure them, we will cut their wings this time, enough of this long aged humiliation and open robbing, Igboayaka stated.

OYC urged Chief of Army Staff and the IG of Police to always post their most disciplined and well-behaved police and army personnels to Igbo land or Igbo youths will contend with those criminals on uniform.

A brother-in-law of the Governor of Ebonyi State Governor, Mr David Umahi and a younger brother of his wife, Mrs. Rachel Umahi has been arrested and paraded by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command in Abuja for kidnapping. The arrest of the young man, identified as Chukwu Betherand, also popularly known as ‘fish’ is said to not have come as a rude shock to the Ebonyi first family if his claims of welfare negligence by the first family is to be believed.

The alleged kidnappers according to police sources were using the Ebonyi State Governor’s Lodge in the high brow Maitama area of Abuja as hide out where their kidnapped victims were kept.

Some family members who confirmed the story to be true blamed Bethrand for turning into criminality though confirming his claims of tightfistedness of the Umahi family especially to close family members. “I blame Bethrand. He is an adult and must take responsibility of his actions. But I also blame his sister and her husband who only support people on Television. Every family member knows how mincy they treat us….,” a family member who spoke on the condition of anonymity said.

The suspects who were arrested on February 6, 2021 by the police around Apo axis in Abuja as they went for their bounty. They are named as follows :

Frank Uzor, 26
Nweke Uche, 19
Chester Uzor, 25
Chukwu Betherand, 27
Chukwu Samuel 25, and Kelechi Ngene were allegedly arrested at the point of collecting ransom from a relative of their victim. The FCT police operatives announced they have rescued 3 victims kidnapped by the alleged kidnap suspects.

A highly placed Ebonyi Government who refused to disclose his name said that “the Governor and his family are shattered by the mud thrown on them by Bethrand. Remember that they made him a cancellor last year. You can imagine the pedigree of those to select to preside over us. An inter-state kidnapper. He must have been tired of kidnapping Eboyians before going inter-state…”, the government official claims.

Meanwhile, most Ebonyians have described the news of the arrest of Betherand as a big dent on the image of the first family and on the entire state.

INSTITUTIONS AND OTHER FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

The Central of Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) circular of January 12, 2017 ref FPRDIRGENICIRI6/010 which cautioned Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFIs), Other Financial Institutions (OFIS) and members
of the pubic on the risk associated with transactions in crypto currency refers.

Further to earlier regulatory directives on the subject, the Bank hereby wishes to remind regulated institutions that dealing in crypto currencies or facilitating payments for crypto currency exchanges is prohibited.

Accordingly, all DMBs, NBFIs and OFls are directed to identify persons and/or entities transacting in or operating crypto currency exchanges within their system and ensure that such accounts are closed immediately.

Please note that breaches of this directive will attract severe regulatory sanctions.

This letter is with immediate effect.

FEC APPROVES ESTABLISHMENT OF 20 NEW PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

The Federal Executive Council has approved a memo from the Ministry of Education for the establishment of 20 new private universities across the country.

The 20 new private universities are to be given provisional licenses to run for three years while the ministry monitors and evaluates their growth.

This brings the total number of private universities in the country to 99.

Also during the meeting, members observed a minute of silence for two late cabinet members who died recently.

The minute of silence was observed just before the commencement of the weekly meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari Council Chambers of the State House.

The former members are Alfa Wali and Tony Momoh.

Wali, a prominent Kano State indigene and former Minister of Agriculture, died on Monday, January 25th, 2021.

He also served as Permanent Secretary in many ministries, including the Ministry of Defence.

The late Momoh was a veteran journalist and politician who was Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, who died on February 1, 2020, at the age of 82.

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Mongunu, as well as seven ministers physically, attended the meeting.

The ministers included Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, and Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

He Came To Nigeria And Died!

SUSPECTED FULANI KIDNAPPERS KILL US-BASED NIGERIAN AFTER COLLECTING N10 MILLION

A United States of America-based Nigerian, Prince Eloniyo Dennis Abuda, has been found dead ‎five days after he was abducted‎ by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Prince Abuda, who was based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, was abducted last Saturday with two other men and a woman along the Benin-Auchi Road.

He was said to be traveling from his hometown, Fugar, in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, to Lagos to catch a flight to the United States when they were seized by the herdsmen.

Abuda, who was said to be the President of Fugar America Foundation, was reportedly shot by the kidnappers after he slumped during the forced long march to the bush.

His decomposing body was discovered after the payment of the ransom, N10 million to free the other hostages who led the family members to the scene along the Benin-Auchi Road end of the Benin bye pass.

The Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, said: “The command is fully aware and the Commissioner of Police personally led operatives to the scene this morning and they are still in the forest on active combing of the bush.”

SECRET EXECUTION OF SIX IGBO CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS AT ABACHA BARRACKS

We have received with rude shock and deepest dismay the Monday, 25th Jan 2021 secret execution of six Igbo Christian soldiers, attached to the Armory Department of the Nigerian Army, Abacha Barracks in Abuja.

The slain Igbo Christian soldiers; namely: Prince Ukwuoma, son of a traditional ruler; Ebube Isaiah, Amos Azubuike, Ekene Ebere, Moses Anyim and Godwin Uchendu were secretly executed under the instruction of now Retired Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, a day before he left office on Tuesday, 26th Jan 2021.

This shocking news was disclosed to us by Barr E.R. Okoroafor, an int’l human rights lawyer, who is very conversant with the matter and was also contacted by one of the slain soldiers through his family to defend them in the trumped up charges, executed using hazy and clandestine Military Court Martial.

According to the int’l rights lawyer, “sometime in Sept 2020, an allegation of missing weapons was made at Abacha Barracks and it was immediately traced to a senior Colonel of Fulani-Hausa Muslim origin and instead of the COAS to issue query and sanction the Colonel, he exonerated him on the grounds of his tribe and religion.
The COAS turned around and ordered for the arrest of 12 soldiers guarding the armory, comprising six Igbo soldiers, three Yoruba soldiers and three Fulani-Hausa Muslim soldiers.
In the end, the latter soldiers were shielded and exonerated under questionable circumstances and the six Igbo soldiers made to face secret court martial during which they were blocked and prevented from having access to their families and defense lawyers of their choice”.

Barr E.R. Okoroafor also told the Coalition that his attempts to stand in for the Igbo soldiers were stiffly opposed and he was flimsily told by the Army’s Legal Department that “civilian lawyers are not allowed to defend the accused soldiers except military lawyers”.

Their trial was totally shrouded in secrecy and never disclosed to the public through Army statements till date; likewise their constitutional right of appeal to Court of Appeal and Supreme Court which was also totally denied.
The persecuted and executed soldiers protested their innocence to the point of tendering their resignation in protest; all to no avail. 

Apart from their secret execution being totally despicable and condemnable and a clear case of ethnic cleansing, the Coalition also strongly suspects that the six Igbo soldiers were framed or singled out for persecution on the grounds of their ethnicity and religion.
It is also doubtful whether the offense of ‘missing weapons’ in peace time is commensurable with death sentence in the Nigerian Military laws, all subject to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Another shocking part was where the immediate past Army Chief derived his power to order for secret execution of “justly” and “unjustly” convicted soldiers.
This is more so when there is a national moratorium on death penalty in Nigeria.

The Coalition therefore notes further that dozens, if not hundreds of Igbo soldiers have in recent times particularly since 2017/18 died under similar circumstances both in battle fronts and ‘peace time’.

Additionally, there have been several reported and unreported cases of dismissals, resignations and desertions involving soldiers and officers of old Eastern Nigeria extraction on account of the ethnic cleansing under Buratai as Nigerian Army Chief. n Abuja and at least three have been confirmed killed in Army detention among hundreds of those still being held captive and incommunicado in secret military locations.

SOUTHEAST GOVERNORS BAN OPEN GRAZING AND MOVEMENT OF COWS BY FOOT IN THE ZONE, SAYS UMAHI

in a bid to curtail the menace and excesses of the herdsmen in the Southeast, just like other zones in the country have also taken measures, the Governor of Ebonyi State and Chairman Southeast Governors’ Forum, Engr. Dave Umahi says the zone had banned open grazing of cattle in the zone.

Governor Umahi who announced this during an APC stakeholder meeting at the Christian Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki, added that the Southeast Governors’ Forum had also banned the movement of cows by foot into the zone.

“We are living in a dangerous time, without patriotism to our nation Nigeria, it is very difficult to have a peaceful time”

He called on leaders and stakeholders of the zone to speak up and desist from playing politics with the Security of the zone and nation.

“Governors of South East have been calling on our leaders to speak out on the Security of the zone and unity of Nigeria, I read on paper where someone said he was giving Governors of South East 7-days to ban open grazing, the Governors of southeast had banned open grazing and movement of cows by foot into South East, in each of States of the South East, we are managing ourselves well, what we discuss with the herdsmen is the system in place for a long time”

The Chairman of the southeast Governors’ Forum cautioned people of the zone against instigating crises in the country through the dissemination of fake videos alleging killing of Fulanis by IPOB in the South East.

“What our people must know is that Security is not political, what is demanded of the leaders is to put up programs that favors the people and foster national unity”

Gov. Umahi announced his support for the call to flush out criminal elements from forests across the nation to boost the security of the country.

“In our forests today, we have the kidnappers, herdsmen, cultists, all sorts of criminals, anybody staying in the forest is taking a risk, when we say that people should move out of the forests, it is for their safety and security, so I support that kidnappers, herdsmen, cultists, and bandits should be flushed out of our forests”

The Governor used the occasion to officially flag off the APC Revalidation and Registration Committee and charged the Caretaker Committees to ensure the successful conduct of the exercise.

He thanked stakeholders of the party for attending the meeting and observing the COVID19 protocol, insisting that the State remains APC.

“Let me thank our leaders for their commitment to the welfare of our party; Ebonyi State is complete and Ebonyi State is APC”

Earlier, the Acting Chairman of APC in the State, Chief Stanley Emegha said the meeting was convened to find a way of upgrading the membership of the party in the State and called on the stakeholders to support the exercise to fully reintegrate the State to the next level.

“We have made it clear that Ebonyi is APC and the National will be expecting us to prove it, proving it is by us coming out and participating in the exercise massively, make whatever sacrifice to the betterment of the State because we must use the exercise to prove a point that Ebonyi State is APC and APC is Ebonyi State”

Inaugurating the State and Local Government Area Caretaker Committee members of the exercise, the Chairman of the exercise in Ebonyi State,  Chief Chima Onyekwere expressed hope that the exercise of membership Revalidation and Registration would produce an Igbo President in 2023.

He appealed to Local Government Chairmen to collaborate with the Caretaker Committees to ensure the success of the exercise in their areas.
