The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start importing fuel from the neighboring Niger Republic.
In a statement in Abuja, Group General Manager/Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Garba Deen Muhammad, said the MoU was reached following bilateral agreements between President Muhammadu Buhari and President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger.
According to a statement, Soraz Refinery in Zinder, Niger Republic, has an installed refining capacity of 20,000 barrels per day compared to the nation’s 5,000bpd domestic requirement.
This leaves a surplus of 15,000 barrels per day.
Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, signed the MoU on behalf of Nigeria while Alio Toune, Director-General of Niger Republic’s National Oil Company, Societe Nigerienne De Petrole, signed on behalf of his country.

A Series- Week 7
National Integration Through Unity In One God!
As the Governor of old Abia State in 1992, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu passionately implemented a deliberate policy of national integration. After the successful abolition of ‘indigenes/settlers’ dichotomy in the State, Dr Onu took the next step to bring all religions together in a Thanksgiving Service to dedicate Abia State and its citizens to God. In his book: “A Foot Print: Memoirs of A Chief Servant, published in 2005, at page 10, Dr Onu narrated: “An Inter-Religious and Inter-Denominational Service was planned. This meant that every single religion practised in Abia State was invited to participate in the Thanksgiving Service. Even if it was only one Abian who practised the religion, invitation was extended for him to participate. Hence, Christians, Moslems, Traditional Religious Practitioners as represented by the Godian Religion and others participated. All denominations within each religion were also invited.” The Thanksgiving Service took place on Sunday, April 26, 1982, first Sunday after the Easter Sunday. Dr Onu was filled with joy at the success of the Thanksgiving Service. At page 11 of his book referenced above, Dr Onu expressed his joy thus: “I was filled with happiness as I watched these religious leaders: Christians, Moslems, Godians, Buddhists and Judaists pray together…to one God. I imagined how wonderful it would be if these religious leaders could be brought together from time to time. This would teach an important lesson to their followers. Their followers could learn that many things were common to all religions. They could also learn that the things that unite all religions could be stronger than the things that divide them.” In his speech on this memorable occasion, published in his book: “The People’s Servant: A Philosophy of Good Governance, 2018”, at pages 12-13, Dr Onu reminded the people that: “We, as God’s own State, are expected to demonstrate true and practical love towards our fellow humans. We are also expected to be apostles of peace and goodwill. Love means being our brother’s keeper. Love is generosity and the spirit of forgiveness. Love means faith and trust. The Lord has enjoined us to love our neighbours. But who is your neighbour? Your neighbour is any Nigerian, man or woman, irrespective of his or her state of origin or religious affiliation. You must love your neighbour as yourself. You must love your State and make sacrifices for it to prosper. You must love Nigeria and be prepared to defend her sovereignty even if you have to do it with your life. We must be prepared to give our sweat, our blood, and if need be, our life for the land we love.”
NOTE: My brothers and sisters, this is the man Nigeria needs in 2023 to repeat what he did in Abia State 29 years ago on a larger scale. We should therefore spare no effort to sale Dr Ogbonnaya Onu to entire Nigerians. He is a product worth marketing.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has dissolved the party’s Ebonyi State Working Committee.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena made this known in a Communique made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to Yekini, the dissolution was as a result of the refusal of factions to withdraw court cases as directed by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Yekini further stated that a 15-member Caretaker Committee had been appointed by the CECPC to manage the Ebonyi State chapter, which includes:

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi, on Tuesday formally announced his defection to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Prior to his defection from the PDP, Governor Umahi had held different positions in the party, which includes State Party Chairman, Deputy Governor and State Governor.
Governor Umahi who said he had no regrets leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also noted that he joined the All Progressive Congress (APC) as a protest against the neglect and injustice done on the southeast by his former party, PDP, since 1999 till date.
His words: “There are a lot of qualified persons from Southeast. Some people say I was promised lots of things by the APC, there was no such discussion. APC never promised me any position, they never promised Southeast any position.
“I offered this movement as a protest to injustice being done to Southeast by the PDP. Since 1999, the Southeast have supported the PDP. At a time the five states were all PDP. One of the founding members of the PDP was from Southeast, the late former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme.
“It is absurd that since 1999 going to 2023, the Southeast will never be considered to run for presidency under the PDP. And this is my position and will continue to be my position. It had nothing to do with me or my ambition”.
Governor Umahi also stated that he had no deal with the APC or any member of the party with regards to the zoning of the presidential position to the region, contrary to conceptions from different quarters that he left the Peoples Democratic Party because they refused to give him presidential slot for 2023 general elections.

BROADCAST BY THE GOVERNOR OF EBONYI STATE, ENGR. DAVID NWEZE UMAHI, FNSE, FNATE ON HIS PROTEST AGAINST THE INJUSTICE BEING DONE TO SOUTH-EAST BY THE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) AND HIS DEFECTION TO ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS (APC)
Let me first clarify that I never sought for PDP presidential ticket and so, whosoever is saying that I moved to APC because they refused to zone the ticket to me is being very mischievous because even if PDP promises an individual a presidential ticket; how does it work when over 8000 delegates will be electing the person and such promise cannot happen with ten or twenty people. So, people are being very mischievous about that but they are a lot of prominent people from South East, I don’t want to list them but I think the House of Assembly members in their letter to PDP listed very much more qualified personalities from the southeast that can take the Presidential slot of PDP.
Some people said I was promised this and that – there was no such discussion. APC never promised me any position, they never promised southeast any position. However, I offered this movement as a protest against the injustice being done to southeast by PDP. That since 1998, 1999, the southeast people have supported PDP in all elections. At a time, the five states were all PDP and one of the founding members of PDP is from southeast, the late Vice President, His Excellency, Dr.Alex Ekwueme. And so, it is absurd that from 1998 going to 2023, the southeast will never be considered to run for Presidency under the ticket of PDP, this is absurd. And this is my position and will continue to be my position.
Let it be known that I’m God’s project and I do not go beyond my calling. I Am satisfied being a governor and by the grace of God, for 8years. First and foremost, as a businessman, I then took an adventure in politics; I refused to be called a politician because politics is all about lying, cheating and backstabbing. That is not my family character and so, I protest and nothing will stop me from this protest.
I believe that this movement will cause PDP to understand that no man is an Island and no single person can be called a crowd. Together we are stronger and if people are shouting in this country of fairness, equity and justice and I stand in a place where such is not practiced then I have to re-examine my head.
People can write all they want to write, it is not my business. In 2023, if God permits, I may be quitting politics and I will be very satisfied because the miracles in Ebonyi state may just be the reason I was born in the first place and I will be bold, like Apostle Paul that says; “I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race.” Wait unto children and their generation, a crown of success because I believed that the foundation would have been laid for the greatness of this state, Ebonyi and so, everybody runs his destiny.
One thing I promise is that I will never castigate PDP, just like, in PDP, my only sin is that I refuse to castigate Mr. President. Until thy kingdom come, I will not do that because that is not my family character but those who don’t have character were very suspicious of me because I don’t castigate President and they thought I could be leaking information about PDP. What nonsense is that?
I came from a very well known family; a place where there is character. If you want to deal with a man, you have to find out about the family background. People jump into politics and covering their character.
Nobody in PDP or APC will say he has ever discussed anything and I have to go and leak it, to leak it for what? Is it for money? Is it for fame? Is it for what?
Let it be known to all that nobody promised me anything. Let it be known to all that I move because of injustice, and I have no regret about that. Some people say, you will regret this movement and I laugh at them, they talk as if they saw God, as if they are my God. I am satisfied being a businessman, I am satisfied doing my businesses. That is all.

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Hon.Teejay Yusuf, representing Ijumu/Kabba-Bunu Federal Constituency, has cautioned the APC against opening its doors for the Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi.
According to Hon. Yusuf who made gave the caution via his Facebook handle on Sunday, “Umahi’s coming into the ruling party was billed to dent its image, adding, “Any political office holder who is in the habit of arresting, suppressing and banning journalists is not morally fit to be in the APC.”
He further said, “Umahi is a dictator; he is deceitful and has from to time shown that he hates democratic tendencies. Allowing such a person into the party is like introducing deceit, dictatorship and other anti-democratic tendencies into the APC.
“This is a leader who doesn’t want freedom of the press and has from time to time arrested, threatened and banned journalists in his state. Such cannot be a part of APC; he is deceitful and dictatorial.”
However, an Ebonyi State leader of the APC, Sen. Julius Ucha, dismissed Yusuf’s concerns. He said, Umahi will be a great asset to the APC and the people of the South-East zone.
Ucha said, “The Lawmaker, Hon. Teejay Yusuf, is just funny. How can he say that APC is inheriting their problem when the PDP has been sending delegations to help stop Umahi from joining APC? Umahi is a great asset to APC.
“His achievement is a veritable tool of marketing and advertisement for APC.

About 1,975 bottles of beer estimated at N200 million were on Sunday confiscated and destroyed by Kano State Hisbah Board – a security outfit.
The incident took place in the metropolis of the state, following a court order.
While the beer sellers were counting their losses, Hisbah operatives received salary increment and new uniform for the exercise.
Speaking during the exercise at Kalebawa in Dawakin Tofa local government, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said the consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants that can distort the mental capability of a person is forbidden in Islam.
“Even in Kano we have banned the consumption of beer in all parts of the State,” Ganduje, represented by his deputy Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, said.
A statement by Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Musa Fagge, noted the Hisbah Board was established to prevent evil social acts in the state.
The Governor explained as part of his administration’s effort of enhancing the welfare of Hisbah, before 2020 runs out, there would be a salary increase and new uniform for its members.
“My administration is proud of the way you discharge your duties. I urge all stakeholders to give you all the needed support to enable you succeed,” he said.
Commander General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Harun Muhammad Ibn Sina, disclosed the beer confiscated is worth over N200 million.
He explained that the board got a court order to destroy the over 20 trucks of alcohol.
Sina, while expressing the appreciation of the support given to them by the State government, assured that Hisbah would not relent in its fight against immoral acts capable of destroying society.

The governors and leaders of the southeast zone have been asked to support the federal government on its move to regulate the social media and check fake news and misinformation of Nigerians.
The appeal was made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, on Saturday while speaking at a presidential delegation interaction with Southeast governors and other leaders of the zone in Enugu.
Mohammed said that the #EndSARS protest and agitation that turned violent and destructive in the country were brought about by fake news emanating from the negative use of the social media.
According to him, the purported massacre leading to the EndSARS protest only happened in the social media.
He said some Nigerians were misled by fake news on social media which turned out as hatred for the police as well as public and private property.
“It is time we must regulate the social media; regulation in this term does not mean stopping or gagging the social media but making its users more responsible.
“It is in ensuring that the social media and its content are used for positive deeds and to promote peace and oneness of the country,’’ he said.
According to him, making social media more responsible will check the sad experience of what a hate speech emanating from a fake news did to Rwanda where over 800,000 people were massacred.
The minister also enumerated various social intervention programmes targeted at the youths to engage them and create financial opportunities for them and other Nigerians.
He cited the initiatives to include the N75billion Youth Intervention Fund; the N75billion MSME fund, N-Power Scheme, Artisan Financial Credit Scheme, Trader Money and Farm Money.
He said that no administration in the history of the country had put in place lots of intervention programmes to cushion poverty and create employment as the current one.
