Rape, Psychological And Psychosomatic Effect Of The Lock Down: The Way Out

RAPE, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PSYCHOSOMATIC EFFECT OF THE LOCK DOWN: THE WAY OUT

WRITTEN AND SENT TO AJM NEWS BY IBELEGBU, JUSTICE CHINECHEREM
E-mail: necherejustice@gmail.com

The present global rate of rape is so alarming and disturbing. In recent time, no day will pass without news of one incident of rape or the other. For instance in Nigeria, precisely on May 30th 2020 in Dutse LGA of Jigawa state, eleven suspects were arrested for raping a 12 year old girl. The rape case of late Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 22 year old microbiology student from Benin city, who was raped and murdered in church is still fresh in our memory. Another girl was recently raped and killed in a church in Oyo state. Man raped and murdered his brothers wife last week in Zamfara. The list goes on without end.

Saddened by the high rate of rape in Nigeria, the Nigerian governors in their meeting held on Thursday 6th June 2020 in Abuja, declared a state of emergency on rape; however, this move by the governors and other stakeholders have yielded no satisfactory result, rather, there is daily increase in number of rape cases in Nigeria.

Rape is a forceful sexual intercourse or other sexual activity upon another person, without their consent. It is sexual abuse in an extreme manner. The issue of rape has been here with us for ages but there seems to be a hike since march this year, that is, since the period of lockdown in Nigeria due to the dreaded coronavirus pandemic.

The Federal government of Nigeria announced a national interstate lockdown in March 2020, due to the gradual increase in the number of patients infected with coronavirus, which was first reported in Nigeria in February 2020 after an infected Italian man visited Lagos state. The lockdown in Nigeria affected schools, government offices, private sectors, the airways and railway, land borders etc. As a result, Nigerians are now forced to stay at home to curtail the spread of the virus. It is glaringly clear that the hike in rape came during this lockdown. The question is: what is the relationship between the lockdown and rape? To a layman, there is none but to a psychologist, there is.

It is obvious that the lockdown is meant to prevent negative medical implication of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic on Nigerians but the truth remains that anything with medical implication also have psychological implication. But often times, we overlook the psychological aspect and focus only on the medical aspect. This act has always resulted in improvement in the medical, while the psychological suffers. There is no gainsaying the fact that psychological aspect needs more attention than the medical (though both of them are paramount).

Psychological means the ‘psyche’ as it relates to behaviour. Psyche talks about the mind, the thought etc. The mind is very much important in every human being, no wonder the holy writ noted that it is where ALL issues of life emanate (Proverbs 4:23). The mind does not work in a vacuum, rather it gives back what is given to it. The mind (psyche) works by information given to it. The mind receives information from the world around through the sense organs (the eyes, nose, skin, tongue and ears). The information received are interpreted in the brain (The Central Nervous System), then is pushed out to reflect as behaviours we exhibit.

Rape is a behavioural problem which must have passed through the processes mentioned above. Rape to me, is a behavioural manifestation of negative sexual impulses given to the psyche (mind) through the sense organs. These negative sexual impulses are recorded in the mind when the mind is idle and less busy with relevant issues but irrelevancies.

This period of lockdown is characterized by idleness, no school assignment to engage the mind, no job task for the working class to engage their mind. Most persons leave their mind idle (which is dangerous), whereas others feed it with irrelevancies like ponographic pictures and videos, thoughts of previous sexual experience, and other negative thoughts which could lead to psychosomatic disturbances.

Psychosomatic disturbance is a physical disturbance or disease which have a mental cause. For instance, the individual may start having uncontrollable erection and uncontrollable sexual impulses and disturbances, which pushes him into the street in search of prey.

Conclusively, Rape is a disease. It has a psychological origin and is a psychosomatic disorder (physical reaction as a result of mental causes). It does more harm than good to both the rapist and his/her victim.

THE WAY OUT

Since rape is a behavioural manifestation of what we gave to our mind, we should:

1. Be careful what we allow into our minds

2. Parents should discourage their children/wards from watching ponographics, their phones and other electronic gadgets should be constantly checked and sanitized of any form of ponography

3. Parents should try to meaningfully engage their children/wards in mental activities during this lockdown.

4. Evil association they say, corrupt good manners, parents should guide their children/wards in their choice of friends.

5.Parents and other adults should also engage their minds meaningfully during this period as rape has no age barrier

6. The services of a professional counselor could be sought who will use techniques like cognitive restructuring and other counselling techniques to sanitize the mind of the rapist.

7. The Government should engage psychologist and trained counselors at this time, the same way medical doctors are engaged

8. There should be radio/television programs, seminars in every town and cities in Nigeria (compliance with covid 19 prevention rules), Psychologists and trained counselors will be engaged by the government to assist in restructuring the cognition of the Nigerian populace.

#saynotorape

#no more neglect of the psychological aspect

Thanks

. .. As Stakeholders chart way forward for Education amidst pandemic

By Charles Otu, AJM NEWS

The minister of State for Education, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba has given a hint about the plan of the Federal Government to re-open schools across the country after a four months lockdown occasioned by the Corona Virus pandemic.
The minister who spoke on the topic: Quality Education in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Institutions; The Challenges of COVID-19: The way forward at a Zoom Conference while addressing participants in a seminar organized by the Nigerian Youth Congress, NYC- a reputable youth leadership organization in conjunction with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Youths Affairs disclosed that the ministry plans to re-scale its calendar to by bringing those already in their exiting years back to the classrooms first before others.
According to him, “We plan to re-scale our Calendar, first, by bringing those already about exiting schools back to the classroom before we bring others back. This will help the government achieve social distancing especially to help tackle the pandemic”.
While counselling each State of the federation to first of all conduct a baseline survey to understudy and understand how best to tackle its education challenges, the minister rued the poor quality of teaching staff in both public and private sectors in the nation’s education.
He said some teachers in the private schools have written the Ministry over their pitiable plights of non-payment of salaries by their employers following the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are trying to see if we can provide them with some palliatives”, he passionately disclosed.
The minister further narrated that the President Buhari administration has almost bent itself backwards to borrow money in order to solve the problem of out of School children in the North Eastern part of the country.

We need to restructure because our education right now is not known to be geared towards a particular direction”, Odoh maintained.
He said in the post COVID-19 era, if Nigeria puts its education structure in the right place and resolves some of the issues, it would get the right results in the sector.

The Federal Government has approved what it called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19.

It has also lifted the ban placed on interstate travels with effect from July 1, provided such journeys are made outside curfew hours.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed these at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also said the government has approved the safe resumption of domestic flights in the country.

He said the reopening of schools was meant to allow students in graduating classes resume preparation for examinations.

He disclosed that the latest developments were contained in the task force’s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), earlier in the day.

Mustapha said, “I am pleased to inform you that Mr President has carefully considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTF and has accordingly approved that, with the exception of some modifications to be expatiated upon later, the Phase Two of the eased lockdown be extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 through Midnight of Monday, 27 July, 2020.

Ex-Commissioner In Ebonyi, Chief Donatus Ajah (ZENTUS) To Be Charged For Murder

FORMER COMMISSIONER IN EBONYI, CHIEF DONATUS AJAH (ZENTUS) TO BE CHARGED FOR MURDER ONCE THE COURTS RESUME:

AJM NEWS

The police in Ebonyi State are still trying to unravel the circumstances that led to the brutal murder of one Azubuike Oko Inya, a 46-year-old father of four at Amankwo village in
Nkpoghoro community of Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.

A former Commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution in the state, Chief Donatus Ajah, a.k.a Zentus, was on June 18, arrested by the men of the state police command over his alleged involvement in the murder of Inya.
Both Ajah and Inya hail from
Amankwo village where a
misunderstanding had allegedly
erupted among the people of Azu
Ukwu Ewa in the night of 22nd May 2020, resulting to Inya’s death.

Battle For Supremacy
Residents said the skirmish was
triggered by supremacy battle
between two factions in the community. The two groups were
said to be loyal to a former Chairman, Interim Committee of
Amankwo Eziukwu Welfare Association, Ifeanyi Obila and the
former Commissioner, Ajah.
The former Commissioner’s group was alleged to have oppressed people in the area particularly those in the habit of challenging their opinions in the village. It was gathered that the suspected killers had stormed a pub in the village and attacked some villagers; inflicting machete cuts on them, a situation that caused anxiety and pandemonium in the community.
Inya, on hearing the cries of the
people at the pub, was said to have rushed to the scene and begged the attackers to stop what they were doing. It was at that point that the hoodlums pounced on him; giving him several machete cuts until he died.

People in the area alleged that one Ifeanyi Ogbonnia Chukwu, a known ally of Ajah, perpetrated the heinous act. A resident, Pastor Emmanuel Nwachukwu while giving background information about the incident said that disunity brewed in the community towards the end of
last year after Ajah had
singlehandedly given out their
communal land to a telecommunication company to
be used for the installation of mast without the consent of other villagers.

According to him, Ajah allegedly
collected over N2million but presented the sum of N700,000 to the community as money for five years lease. Irked by what they perceived as under hand deal, the community rejected the N700,000 and dragged both Ajah and the company to court.
“After Hon Donatus (Ajah) had told us about the business, we requested for either Memorandum of Understanding or duplicate of the cheque given to him but he stoutly refused to provide us with any and having found out that he was not
transparent in the deal, around
January, 2020, we instituted litigation against him and the
company,” Nwachukwu said.

Following the position of Ifeanyi
Obila and another prominent indigene of the area, Titus Obila,
who had insisted that proper account be rendered, the former
Commissioner felt aggrieved and
allegedly incited his supporters
against his opponents. They had
allegedly threatened that hell would be let lose in the area if the matter was not withdrawn from court.

Pastor Nwachukwu also said that
after Ajah and his cohorts found
out that the people in the rival camp were not moved by their warning, they went further and erected some lockup shops at the entrance of Titus Obila’s compound as payback for his
adamant position on the issue.
He added that some stakeholders
reported the matter to the police
and the local government town
planning authority after they sensed the imminent danger associated with the illegal construction. The town planning authority visited the site and condemned the construction of the lockup shops on access way.
They came back some days later
and demolished the structure.

Saturday Sun was further told that it was after the demolition that Ajah’s supporters allegedly invited into the community a large number of hoodlums believed to be members of a cult group who started attacking members of the opposing camp one after another. It was in the process that Inya was killed after they had inflicted serious machete cuts on Mr Emmanuel Eluu and others.

Ifeanyi Obila’s brother, Joel,
corroborated the pastor while Titus Obila, a surveyor from the community, added that it was after Ajah discovered he (Titus) was among the plaintiffs in one of the suits against him that he decided to witch hunt him by erecting the illegal structure on the road to his compound.
“Since 2018, Hon Donatus (Ajah)
had been doing all manners of
wickedness to frustrate our
efforts from obtaining justice
until recently when he influenced some persons against others in the village which has cost the life of Mr Azubuike (Inya)”, Obila, the surveyor said.

Joel claimed that the killers’ target was his brother: “When these people came and could not find my elder brother, who I think was their target, they started attacking everyone there and people were running helter-skelter. That was when Azubuike Inya came from the village. He pleaded with them not to do such
a thing, because it was not good.
They attacked him and killed him
with their machetes.”

Ex-commissioner Denies
Involvement
Ajah, however, denied the allegation of incitement or having a hand in the killing, claiming that he was not around when the incident happened. He also said that the accusation of
misappropriation of community fund levelled against him was masterminded by mischievous
persons who could not verify
information before they would
begin to rant.
Speaking to our correspondent
on telephone, he said: “I was not at home during the incident but based on the report from eye witnesses, it was established that the deceased returned from Cross River to kill but unfortunately he got killed from his co-supporters. As I am talking to you now, some persons whom Mr Azubuike had injured before his demise are presently lying critically ill in the hospitals.”

On the allegation of misappropriation of N22m, he told Saturday Sun that the owners being members of Azu Ukwu Ewa Welfare Union had withdrawn and made use of their money adding that there were resolutions and other documents to that effect.
Ajah claimed that he was not part of the people who negotiated the mast installation rather it was done by some persons that were at home then. He added that he was thereafter chosen by the villagers to represent them; an assignment he did wholeheartedly without attaching interest.

He further explained that the
construction of the shops was a
collective effort of all male adults
who levied themselves to establish a source of income to the village but surprisingly Ifeanyi Obila allegedly used the position of his wife who was then vice chairman of Afikpo North LGA and demolished the property.

He reiterated that all the allegations against him were false and merely orchestrated to tarnish his good image which he had built for years. “It was the same Ifeanyi Obila, who started telling people that I had a hand in Azubuike’s death. I believe God is the giver and taker of life and will always disappoint Ifeanyi and his cohorts, who feel that they will only be satisfied if they hear that I am dead,” the former commissioner alleged.

Police React
At Afikpo, the Divisional Police
Officer (DPO), Nwenyim Livinus told Saturday Sun that there was a killing in the area but that he lacked the mandate to speak to the press, hence, he referred this reporter to the State command headquarters, Abakaliki, where the incident was confirmed.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Loveth Odah, who also confirmed the arrest of Ajah, added that the suspect was apprehended for his alleged involvement in Inya’s death. “Yes, he (Ajah) is in custody. We are
still investigating the matter,” Odah stated.

Meanwhile, Saturday Sun findings indicate that the suspect was released after being detained for about 48 hours because the police said they could not continue keeping him in custody.
They could not arraign him since
all the courts in the state were shut for about two weeks on the directive of Governor David Umahi due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Police, however, have assured that the former commissioner would be charged for murder once the courts
resume.

POVERTY AND INEQUALITY: FIVE TRANSFORMATION PATHWAYS FOR EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT

POVERTY AND INEQUALITY: FIVE TRANSFORMATION PATHWAYS FOR EBONYI STATE GOVERNMENT

By Nwachukwu Ani Agwu

AJM NEWS

On Wednesday, 20th November 2019, Governor David Umahi emerged BusinessDay Governor of the year for the 2019 States Competitiveness and Good Governance Awards in an elaborate event held in Abuja about 520km away from Abakaliki – the capital territory of Ebonyi State. A year before, he had won the Governor of the Year Award (Achievement in Agriculture) by New Telegraph. Both BusinessDay and New Telegraph are national news platforms. In spite of these fantabulous recognitions, we should not be carried away with their euphoria. The reason is not far-fetched: Ebonyi is the poorest territory in the whole of the southern protectorate – a label for all the southern states before the amalgamation policy of 1914.

Earlier this month, Ebonyi State had emerged as a breeding ground for poverty, inequality and destitution according to a report by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS). In the report: Poverty and Inequality in Nigeria, Ebonyi was implicated as the 4th poorest or most wretched state in the federation and number one in the whole of the southern region. As the central planning institution and the apex statistical agency, the NBS is striving to live up to its mandate.

Of a truth, the National Living Standard Survey (NLSS) used in conducting the assessment is not a multidimensional measure that looks at poverty with the lens of multidimensionality. Unlike monetary poverty measures (MPM), multidimensional measure (the most encompassing and preferred methodology) reflects the multiple and overlapping dimensions that characterize poverty in a given context, for instance, food, insecurity, unemployment, dilapidated housing, lack of healthcare, low educational levels and so on. However, MPM which assesses income or consumption (expenditure) is not only an accepted methodology but a quick and cost-effective probe into what is happening to poverty in a given environment (please refer to NBS for the full report).

That said, poverty reduction has been unanimously endorsed as the overarching goal of development and good governance although what constitutes poverty, how it is measured and how it is tackled remain a subject of contention among policymakers. Whichever the conceptualization, method of measurement or determination, the consensus is that the threshold below which a person is defined as poor is undesirable and debasing. And as argued by Prof Pat Utomi on his University of Calabar 2014 Convocation Guest Lecture: Nigeria’s Political Economy and the Pursuit of Poverty, “No sane person or government would make poverty, which assaults (diminishes) the dignity of man, an object of a policy… But if a person or government consistently makes choices that can only make them poor, surely, it must be logical to suggest that poverty is the object of choice”.

Debates on poverty and inequality constitutes some of the most interesting topics among policymakers and scholars. But for the purpose of this article, I will excuse all that and move straight to propose measures that Ebonyi State Government might find useful for its redemption, salvation and poverty reduction agenda. I am going to propose five (5) transformation pathways that could lift millions out of poverty [in the shortest possible time] if adopted and/or adapted by the authorities. These transformations take into cognizance the current stage of development of Ebonyi and its socio-economic disposition or peculiarities. For those who are not so familiar with the terrain, Ebonyi is largely an agrarian economy with major operations still at the subsistence level.

The first transformation pathway is education. A critical part of this transformation (that should be the preoccupation of all civil and public servants in Ebonyi) is to ensure that all children have access to quality education, that no child is left behind. It is evident that schooling needs to begin early enough, earlier than the traditional elementary school enrolment age. Early child development (3-5 years) marks a critical period of neurological development. This must then continue through secondary education to the tertiary level to enable young “Ebonyians” to acquire rudimentary and advanced skill needs for a prosperous life. Education is an approach that opens up the road to the capability approach to poverty reduction as espoused by the Nobel Prize winner, Amartya Sen. For Sen, poverty is the lack of prerequisites for a self-determined life, “lack of capabilities” to manage one’s life. With quality and accessible education, capabilities – means for achieving a good life to avoid or escape from deprivations and to realise one’s potential – are acquired and meaningfully expanded.

In Ebonyi, the current school completion rate is abysmal and indicting. This is evident by the number of Ebonyians on the street of major cities and state capitals across the country operating as hawkers, child labourers, beggars, prostitutes and the destitute. It is strong factors such as these that interact to earn Ebonyi her position among the poorest, wretched and dejected. Without proper education (as a window of escape), the majority of Ebonyians will remain trapped and cobwebbed.

Truly, for Ebonyi to bind the fangs of pervasive lack and hardship within its bounds, the second transformation that must happen is affordable healthcare for all, especially at the grassroots. This entails reducing the present level of disease burden in the state. Recently, a journalist uncovered hundreds of deaths associated with the Lassa Fever outbreak that went unreported for months and years. Look at the general hospitals in the state, the buildings are standing there (renovated or rather painted) but nothing more except for the booming mortuary units due to high patronages.

On transforming the health sector, there is an abundance of expert knowledge and wonderful templates like Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Integrated Health Systems. That Eboyians are dying in their numbers in rural settlements is an indicator of poor health outcomes. In rural health posts (the few where you can find doctors and nurses), poor households are required to make out of pocket payments beyond what they can afford. This is a stark reality that further pushes residents away from formal health systems and its attendant consequences on health outcomes cannot be overemphasized.

The third transformation that would force-down poverty rates in Ebonyi is sustainable jobs and livelihood strategies. All said and done, Ebonyians should have purchasing powers that would shoot-up consumption of essential goods and services. Currently, the underemployment rate in Ebonyi is 19.9 percent (the highest in the geopolitical zone) while the unemployment rate is 21.1 percent (a high figure but not the highest in the region). The reference period is 2018 and things could have gone worse. Let me tell a short story to illustrate the welfare of civil servants in Ebonyi.

To celebrate his retirement (what could have been a colourful passing out parade if it were to be in the armed forces), an uncle sent me this short message service, “I am 35 years today in Ebonyi State Civil Service. On the account of that, I am retiring as a Director with effect from today. I thank God for His caring in this long and Tortuous journey”. The emphasis or lesson is on the tortuous component of the message which tells so much on the satisfaction and fulfilment of civil servants in the state. When promotions are earned, emoluments of workers should reflect accordingly (there are reports that this does not happen) and salaries should even be adjusted upwards where necessary in line with prevailing economic realities. Indeed, enough cannot be said on this particular issue – the welfare of workers – in this article but there should be appropriate redress where infringements had been perpetrated.

In another development, the establishment of a vocational centre and institute is a highly commendable development. The institute would help bridge the school-to-work gap and midwife a successful apprenticeship programme for the state where young people are bred on instantly employable skills to play in the local economy. Nothing grows an economy like jobs and sustainable livelihoods. It is wages, salaries and profits that eventually translate to consumption expenditures. The state must either increase the momentum on job creation or review all her employment and empowerment programmes to reflect political neutrality, meritocracy and credibility.

The fourth transformation is trade in agricultural commodities and produce. As the 6th highest producer of paddy rice – over 405,000MT – and highest rice processor in Nigeria – over 2,080,000MT/annum (installed capacity), hunger should not be a common phenomenon among many Ebonyians. In a report by the Institute of African Intelligence (IAI) published in January 2020, it is rather bizarre that Ebonyi was ranked the state with the most expensive beans retail price/Kg. As a matter of fact, beans sold for NGN576/Kg – the costliest in the country.

The livelihoods of the majority of Ebonyians depend on revenues from agricultural produce (rice, yam, cassava, etc.). Therefore, the future of the state is both domestic and international trade in agricultural commodities (where comparative advantage exists) while it must strive to beat the odds in agro-processing and cottage industries. In theory, the trajectory of economic development starts with agricultural production, moves to manufacturing sector, then services, ending up with high-value-added research and development. Ebonyi State Government must be bullish in pursuing trade policies because this will create more jobs, eradicate hunger by normalising the price of staples (like beans) and turn in foreign exchange from exports to neighbouring countries.

Very importantly, standardisation and expansion of trade in commodities would court huge revenues to the state government through income tax. It is this income tax that would be deployed to fund investments in agricultural credit facilities, farm machinery, training and capacity development and all other transformations earlier outlined. The state must be serious about domestic trade on commodities and produce because it is about survival – survival of millions of Eboyians either wallowing or neck-deep in poverty.

The last but not least of the transformations borders on defending our democracy and expansion of political liberty in the state. A recent case on the front burner is a disgusting video where state officials tortured a young man in Afikpo (purportedly a pastor) for criticizing the State Government on Facebook. Tabay – the torture style employed – is about the most dehumanizing way to abuse a human being. But it happened in Ebonyi. I am happy that an investigation by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been launched by the Executive Secretary. May the final report be made public and those culpable duly prosecuted!

Put simply, building a resilient economy that would lift millions out of poverty in Ebonyi requires the free flow of information, public accountability and open dialogue between citizens and elected or appointed officials. That these important relationships or processes are strained at best, or altogether absent, means that Ebonyi is much less likely to expand the frontiers of economic freedom, political liberty and human right protection. Where these elements are absent, welfare and wellbeing are bound to fall behind and deteriorate. It is good to learn that the Governor has lifted “Life Ban” on two journalists who were banished from the state for being critical of the government’s policies and projects. Notwithstanding, rightful criticisms suggest that democratic governments are best positioned to manage the scarce resources of the state and deliver prosperity to citizens with much greater transparency. It is only in a democracy that the public can ensure that leaders ultimately do the right thing and design policy solutions that best deliver economic development.

As I conclude, let me go back to the very beginning where I started. Extreme poverty and wide inequality are an object of policy (choice) whether advertently or inadvertently. Consequently, poverty, inequality and social exclusion are harbingers for insecurity, social disorder, criminal resistance and insurgency – a rough and dangerous road for any centralised government, especially with limited resources. I have outlined five transformations that would deliver prosperity and lift millions out of poverty in Ebonyi: access to quality education; availability and affordability of healthcare services; sustainable jobs and livelihoods strategies, trade policy in agricultural produce/commodities and advancement or protection of democratic ethos.

It is my earnest belief and expectation that this article would offer Ebonyi State Government the opportunity to evaluate her programmes, policies, projects and priorities in order to ensure that households and residents are not further alienated from the government and subsequently abandoned. The state of poverty is an undignifying and tortuous arena. The Governor, Engr David Umahi must do everything possible to fundamentally lift millions of Eboyians out of poverty and wretchedness. The buck stops at his table.

A Cry From Ezza Effium: The Deplorable State Of Roads In Effium

A Cry From Ezza Effium

WHAT IS OUR OFFENCE?

(Sent To AJM NEWS By Ifeanyi Nweke)

Ezza Effium is one of the autonomous community in Ebonyi state under Ohaukwu local government area. This community comprise of 90 villages and above. With the number of these villages Effium is more than many local governments in Nigeria and agriculture as major means of livelihood.
The social injustice and economic negligence impose on us by the government of Ebonyi state as if we have special crime committed against the state. This community have only two major roads that link these nomerious villages access to market and abakaliki town. The condition of these roads are so pitiable and quagmatic that best explain by the picture below to avoid over exaggeration. Electricity and pipe borne water is another elephant project in the area , thank God for the charity of philanthropic sons and daughters of the community whom out of their wealths sink boreholes to different villages.
The conditions of the markets which the so called government come to collect tax on daily basis are so unbearable especially this period of rainy season.
Government of Ebonyi only remembered this zone during electioneering period, the moment the collected our vote which empower them to get into office they will fly like eagle to be seen in another four years. Every four years our road will be the campaign agenda.
The so called individuals who represent us both in state assembly and other political post are worse than devil. But law of karma is always there to judge.

TWO YOUNG BOYS AGED 14 AND I5 GANG-RAPE A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE:

TWO YOUNG BOYS AGED 14 AND I5 GANG-RAPE A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE:

{…The Boys Invaded The House When They Noticed Everyone Had Gone Out, Overpowered Her And Raped Her}

Otu Obiahu, AJM NEWS

Two young boys are now in police net in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital for gang-raping a young girl this week.

According to the information, the two boys, Chidubem Onwe (14 years) and Chidiogu Okonkwo (15 years) were said to have gone to the family house of the girl, Mmesoma Nwoye (15 years), when they noticed everyone had left the house, overpowered her, tore her dress and raped her.

The ugly incident happened at Ishieke, Abakaliki on Tuesday, 16 June, around 1:00pm, when the compound of the victim was lonely.

AJM NEWS gathered that Mmesoma’s father alerted the police when he came home from the day’s business and got information about what happened, as narrated by his daughter.
The police immediately swung into action, got the boys arrested and took the raped girl to the hospital for medical checkup.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the report and said that the suspects had been arrested and had confessed to the crime.

The PPRO said: “On June 16th, 2020, at about 1:15pm one Fidelis Nwoye of Nkelegu in Ishieke community, in the company of her daughter, Nmesoma Nwoye 15yrs, came to the station and reported that at about 12pm June 14, one Chidiogu Okonkwo, 15yrs and one Chidubem Onwe, 14yrs, all of the same address went to his house while he was at his shop at Ishieke and tore his daughter’s cloth and raped her.

“So Police in Ishieke quickly swung into action and arrested the suspects and all of them confessed to the crime.

“I know that the only thing that can make children of that age do that kind of a thing is cultism and drugs.

Though they are minors, we have where we keep minors and they will be charged to court as soon as we are done with the doctor’s report”.

It is of note that recently, there had been several reported cases of rape in different parts of the country, as many suspects had also been arrested in connection to that.
