The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from engaging the Chairman of the Lagos Parks and Garages, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo or any of his representatives in the distribution of election materials and adhoc staff for the forthcoming polls in the state.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke granted the injunction following an application filed by the Labour Party and Boot Party in Lagos.

INEC was reportedly absent at the proceedings even though a lawyer to the Labour Party told the court that the commission was served with the court papers.

The Labour Party and five other plaintiffs had gone to court to seek an interlocutory injunction restraining INEC, “whether by itself or by its officers, affiliates, servants, privies or agents or any person acting or purporting to act for and on behalf howsoever from taking any steps or further steps whatsoever in furtherance of the engagement or appointment or consummating the appointment of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo led Lagos State Parks Management Committee or any of its commercial bus drivers to distribute 2023 election materials and personnel in Lagos State pending the hearing and determination the substantive suit”.

In the ruling, the judge restrained INEC from taking any steps or further steps whatsoever in furtherance of the engagement of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee led by MC Oluomo pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.

The Ebonyi State Government says it will not obey the court judgment that disbanded the Southeast Security Network, code-named, Ebubeagu, describing it as illegal.

It would be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, on Tuesday ordered the disbandment of Ebubeagu citing abuse of human rights.

The court also ordered the Department of State Services, DSS and the police to collect all the weapons in possession of the personnel of the outfit.
But addressing journalists on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, described the judgment as dead on arrival.

Describing the judgment as illegal, Orji said, “Ebubeagu has legal backing to its existence and operations not only in Ebonyi but the entire southeast. We will not hesitate to go to the Supreme Court to know who is right in this circumstance.”

Also speaking, Mr Stanley Okoro-Emegha, Special Security Consultant (SSC) to the state government, noted that moves were already being made to appeal the judgement.
Okoro-Emegha expressed optimism that the appellate court will reverse the verdict in due course because the outfit has a firm legal backing to its existence.
He urged politicians to stop playing with the security of society, irrespective of the party they belong to.

“Ebubeagu is perfectly designed by law to complement the effort of the security agencies in tackling insecurity.
“We will not listen to that Federal High Court ruling of Tuesday because we have a similar ruling previously, which we won in 2022. Of course, the lives of citizens are of utmost importance to us.

“We will appeal the judgement and Ebubeagu will continue to function the way they have been functioning. So, we will not adhere to that judgement,” he stated.

Okoro-Emegha urged the opposition parties to know that removing Ebubeagu will not make them win elections in Ebonyi.
“Election is by voter card and by talking to your supporters. Nothing will make Ebubeagu to jitter because there is a law backing the establishment,” he added.

THE SPEAKER of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has attributed the current hardship occasioned by fuel and naira scarcity to “elements” bent on scuttling APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu’s victory at the February 25 poll.

Mr Gbajabiamila stated this in Lagos on Tuesday during the launching of the second phase of a transport initiative called ‘Gbaja Ride’ for his Surulere constituents. The 35 low-fare buses will ply different routes in Surulere and its environs.

“As your representative and speaker, I have a good understanding of the current hardships and discomfort being faced by many Nigerians, without exception to my constituents,” Mr Gbajabiamila explained. “The lower legislative chamber under my leadership has been on the side of the people, working tirelessly to rescue them from these difficulties. I am glad that the judiciary has also confirmed our position on the implementation of the policy of naira redesign.”

He explained that the new naira banknotes policy was a well-thought-out one, which had unfortunately been hijacked and politicised, alleging that some elements created a crisis around the policy to stop Mr Tinubu from becoming the next president.

Mr Gbajabiamila said the plot seemed to be failing as Nigerians still keep faith with the APC and Mr Tinubu despite the chaos following the naira scarcity.

“Nobody can convince me that it is not a plot to stop Asiwaju from becoming the president of this country. But I am glad that our God is a wonderful being as the plot these people sat together to hatch, he has intervened,” said Mr Gbajabiamila.

He added, “I have followed the campaign team to the East, North and everywhere with Asiwaju, and I doff my hat for Nigerians.”

ATIKU TO RELEASE NNAMDI KANU WHEN HE BECOMES PRESIDENT, SAYS ANAMBRA CAMPAIGN DIRECTOR, OBIORA OKONKWO

Former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next month’s election, Atiku Abubakar, will grant detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, unconditional release if he emerges president on May 29, one of his campaign directors has revealed.

Kanu has been in detention facility of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 when he was intercepted and renditioned to Nigeria from Kenya by the federal government.

Revealing Atiku’s plan, director-general of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of Atiku/Okowa in Anambra State, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the PDP candidate will rely on the Appeal Court judgement to release the Biafra agitator.

According to Okonkwo, the appellate court was very explicit that Kanu should be a free man and no court can try him again for the alleged offence.
The PDP chieftain also disclosed that one of Atiku’s key programmes would be to ‘instil permanent peace’ in parts of the country especially the South East region.

To achieve this, he said Atiku would release all South East agitators in detention and ensure that the tension in the region is doused.
He, therefore, urged the people of the zone to throw their weight behind the PDP candidate to win the February 25 poll, knowing that he has in mind the best interest of South East.
Okonkwo said, “I am saying this with every sense of responsibility that Atiku will grant Nnamdi Kanu unconditional release. That is in Atiku’s agenda for permanent peace in the south east. In addition, he will also apply political solution to release all those genuine IPOB agitators in detention without trial.
“Atiku’s government have serious talks with the group and others, with the view to restoring their faith in the country, and make them part of the effort for better Nigeria. However, the criminal elements will be dealt with decisively.

“What we are now therefore saying is for this to happen, peace must reign for election in the Southeast, and the need for the South Easterners to fall behind PDP.”
With this plan, Atiku is the only candidate that has a plan to address the situation in South East, to the benefit of the region and country generally.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi said he could not hand over power to Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate Ifeanyi Odii who is from the same senatorial district as him. He said such action would truncate the peace, equity and justice set out by the state’s founding fathers.

“It will be wrong, if after eight years, I hand over to my brother from the next door Local Government Area,” Mr Umahi, the APC senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South, said on Friday at a campaign rally in Abakaliki Local Government Area.

“This will violate the peace, equity, justice, understanding of our founding fathers and everything that binds us.”

Mr Odii, the 48-year-old PDP candidate is from Onicha Local Government of Ebonyi State and poses strong push to succeed Mr Umahi.
The governor said that “equity and justice would be negated, if such happens.”
He said it was time to reciprocate the gestures of the Ebonyi North Senatorial District, especially the Izzi clan, which massively supported him in 2015.

“The Izzi people, in the same spirit of equity, supported me in 2015 because it was the turn of the southern district to rule.
“Power should return to the north where it all began and precisely, the Izzi clan.
“The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Francis Nwifuru, should be supported,” he said.
According to him, anyone fighting for what does not belong to him, is fighting God.
He, therefore, urged the people to vote for all the APC candidates at all levels, saying that the party had performed well in the state.

“Vote for Ahmed Tinubu for President because he took care of Igbos as Lagos governor and will take care of us as president.
“I want to inform the opposition that they cannot negotiate 25 per cent of votes in Ebonyi because the state is totally for APC,” Mr Umahi said.
In a speech, the APC governorship candidate thanked the governor for ensuring that the charter of equity was respected.
He said that the people would remain eternally grateful to him for supporting equity.

“When some stakeholders of the state decided to oppose this arrangement, you decided to stand by it and bequeath peace on the land.
“We came to show capacity of delivering and demonstrate that Ebonyi is totally for APC,” Mr Nwifuru said.

GOVERNORS, LEADERS ARE POLITICAL GANGSTERS, REAL ENEMIES OF NDIGBO, SAYS OHANAEZE YOUTH

The Ohanaeze youth Council, OYC, has insisted that one of the 2023 New Year’s resolutions of the youths should be to get rid of the South-East Governors, alleging that the latter are the real enemies of Ndigbo are the South-East and not the Hausa/Fulani as insinuated.

The Apex Socio-cultural youth organization of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, OYC, described the Senators, Federal House Of Representatives members, State House of Assembly members, Ministers and other political office holders from the South-east region  as the authentic enemies of Ndigbo.

The National President of the Council, Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, in a press release, titled ‘ Revealing The Real Igbo Enemies’ and made available to newsmen, alleged that  75% of the victimisation and marginalization meted out to Ndigbo is instigated by the latter’s representatives both at State and federal level.

Comrade Igboayaka lamented that none of the political leaders from the region had been able to query the Federal government on this deliberate marginalization and Injustice, as perceived to be evident in the abrupt abortion of the railway project in the region.

The release read in detail:

“The cancellation of South-east railway project, happened quietly yet no Governor, Senator, Federal House Of Representatives members, State House of Assembly members, Ministers from South-east and other political office have questioned the Federal government on this deliberate marginalization and injustice.

“Unfortunately, South-east Governors, Senators, Federal House Of Representatives members, State House of Assembly members, Ministers from South-east and other political office holders in South-east are political looters and criminal minded people who care only for their pockets.

“Ndigbo have bunch of political sons and daughters who hang in Abuja looking for contract to enrich themselves.

“These political cartels in South-east have regrettably, made it possible for uninformed Igbo youths to believe that Hausa/Fulani or Nigeria are the only people marginalizing Ndigbo, but the primitive accumulative of wealth by Igbo politicians has proven that the real enemies of Ndigbo are politicians from South-east.

“The Governors from South-east over the years has been embezzling the Local Government’s allocations with impunity; these clique of disgruntled political elements, have converted public funds into their private pause, majority of properties own by Ndigbo abroad are own by Igbo politicians, they all have properties and businesses in Europe.

“It’s quite unspeakable that we have Common criminals at sit of power who blow sirens here and there, good for nothing men and women that specialized in converting public funds into their personnel account.

“With the extant political and economic backwardness, insecurity ravaging the South-east, Ndigbo must, therefore, learn and begin to compel these common criminals we have in South-east to account for the funds and appointments given to them by federal government for Ndigbo. We must desist from getting antagonistic with Hausa/Fulani or federal government on that we have been deprived of.

Over the years, we had men and women of questionable characters, notorious fraudulent (419), individuals and up until this moment, there’s still a recurrent recruitment of yahoo boys into State House of Assembly. These men are parading at corridors of Power, only to confiscate the fortune of Ndigbo to satisfy their selfish desires.

“At the spate of insecurity and crisis between federal government of Nigeria and Ipob in South-east since 7 years the so called Leaders have kept mute.

With the report of International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Inter-Society) on 13th May 2022 over 40 Igbo communities attacked by Soldiers/Ebube Agu Militias, 400 civilian homes razed down. Yes, going by this report, security forces/Jihadist killed 1400 defenseless Igbo civilians, abducted/arrested over 4800 Igbo youths, over 1000 Youths disappeared, with over 8000 internally displaced”

The local and international Igbo business people at Aba, Nnewi, Umuahia, Owerri, Orlu, Okigwe, Onitsha, Ihiala, Enugu, Abakiliki, South-east have lost over N200 billion.

The roll call of death in South-east through extrajudicial killings, bandits/Fulani and criminal gangsters that are ravaging the region. All we have are sit-tight Governors, Senators, Reps, political and all manner of political profiteers who have not proffer a solution neither putting an action to solve the problems, but they kept mute, standing akimbo with disdain watching in lack of empathy on the killings of over 4000 Igbo Youths.

“Igbo youth must wake up in this 2023 to search for possible replacement for these political gangsters, looters and economic vampires that have raped Ala-Igbo since 1999 of the new democratic dispensation. The simple new year resolution by Igbo youth should be to retire these political gangsters whose only achievement was to arm the youths to fight themselves and their political enemies.

Igbo Youths and other misguided youths must realize that carrying arms to terrorize others is a simple way to continue to be in chains and doesn’t translate or guarantee freedom.

“The youth must carry out a mob action in order to eradicate these unrepentant hoodlums in AlaIgbo. This is the only way forward to reclaim Ala-Igbo from her political oppressors, cannibals and vampires”, Igboayaka concluded.

WIDOWS’ CARE DAY OF WORD ALIVE BIBLE CHURCH, AFIKPO

Word Alive Bible Church, Zion City (Amazion) Ozizza, Afikpo North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Began The “Widows Care Day” programme in December 2015, when I (Rev. Eze Lawrence) received an instruction from the Lord from the book of James 1:27— the Lord told me that the Church should gather Widows in “Need and Indeed” every year and give them gifts of food items and other things we can afford.

He (God) will receive it from us as a sacrifice unto Him and that He will use it to bless the church and individuals who shall make this sacrifice every year.

In obedience to God, we’ve been doing it for seven years now without breaking.
2022 Widows day held on 25 December.
No fewer than 40 widows drawn from different parts of Afikpo and denominations benefitted from this December programme; all of them went home with various kinds of food items.
The church doesn’t discriminate in the selection of widows who would benefit from the programme, as most of the widows are from different churches and ministries.
The church has also rendered financial assistance to some widows in Afikpo, to enable them start up small businesses.

In addition to that, we are also taking care of some orphans by training them in school and providing for their daily needs.

A lot of Testimonies have been coming from people who have been participating/supporting us in this “Yearly Sacrifice.” A brother made a sacrifice last 2 years and got a job with United Nations (UN) after 2 months of the sacrifice.

Our Church is in a Village in Afikpo North, but has been using this to bless the church.

THREE PERSONS KILLED IN EDDA, AFIKPO SOUTH

A younger brother to Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Eme Orji and two others have been killed as a result of political crisis that erupted at Ekoli-Edda in Afikpo South local government area of the State.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, said that the incident was a supremacy struggle between the State APC chairman, Stanley Okoro and the immediate past Chairman of Afikpo South Council area, Hon. Eni Uduma Chima.

Anyanwu said: “At about 1630hrs of 26/12/2022, a day popularly known as “Boxing Day”, a distress call was received that sporadic shootings and killings were going on at Ekoli-Edda between Ebubeagu operatives who accompanied their boss, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the State’s APC Chairman, and another group of men purported to be loyalists to the immediate past Council Chairman, Hon Dr. Chima Eni, who is also the APC flag bearer for national House of Representative in the area.”

“It was further gathered that the open shoot out was not far-fetched from previous grudges existing between the two factions. In the process, a youth leader identified as Eseni Kalu Egwu was fatally wounded, later rushed to a neighboring hospital at Ohafia, Abia State where he was confirmed dead.”

“Angered by his death, the youth of the area mobilised and went on rampage, killing Eme Orji, a younger brother of the State APC Chairman and an Inspector of Police attached to SPU. The irate youth equally set ablaze the village house of Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, his Toyota Hilux van and a Toyota Sienna space bus belonging to the Police Command’s Tactical Teams”.

“When the Tactical Teams were dispatched to Ekoli-Edda to take control of the situation, they were ambushed by the youth of the area at the village entrance. However, the operatives maneuvered unhurt.”

“The bodies of the three deceased persons have been evacuated and deposited at different morgues. Two suspects were arrested among the irate youth while others are still at large.”

“Also, the two political gladiators at the middle of the whole imbroglio have been placed on protective custody to douse the tension in the area, while a scrupulous investigation has been activated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of SCIID here in Ebonyi State”.

The police spokesman said that the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State Police Command, CP Aliyu Garba has visited the scene and advised that everyone affected in one way or the other in the ugly development should keep calm.
